New York City’s United Nations Headquarters offers visitors an extraordinary opportunity to experience the inner workings of a global institution dedicated to peace, security, and human rights. Before arrival, all guests must complete online registration through the official United Nations Security website to help ensure a smooth and secure entry process. Visitors aged 18 and older must present a valid, original government-issued photo ID from a United Nations Member State or non-member observer State, written in Latin or Roman characters. Accepted documents include passports, driver’s licenses, national identity cards, and IDNYC cards, while military IDs are not accepted. Only original physical identification is permitted, with photocopies and digital images excluded.

Guided tours offer an engaging introduction to some of the United Nations’ most important spaces, including the General Assembly Hall, Security Council Chamber, Trusteeship Council Chamber, and Economic and Social Council Chamber. Visitors learn how the organization addresses critical international issues such as disarmament, peace and security, human rights, and sustainable development. The visit begins at the Visitor Registration Office located across from the Headquarters. Guests then cross the street to pass through security before proceeding to the guided tour ticket window at the rear of the Visitors Lobby to complete their tour registration. The Headquarters is fully accessible to visitors with disabilities, supporting an inclusive experience for guests with different mobility and accessibility needs. Access to some areas may occasionally be restricted without notice because of high-level meetings, diplomatic events, or other official activities.
