We recently rented a campervan from Breakaway Campers. While the initial booking process was smooth and professional — particularly thanks to Andres, who was a pleasure to deal with — our overall experience ended up being frustrating and disappointing. One of the main reasons we chose Breakaway, despite their higher price point compared to other providers, was the flexibility advertised on their online booking system. It allowed for an 8 a.m. Friday pickup and an 8 p.m. Monday return. Andres also mentioned we might be able to collect the van Thursday evening if it wasn’t in use — which was appreciated. However, after being informed that Andres had left the company, we were redirected to another staff member who told us that pickups and drop-offs followed a “hotel model” (afternoon check-in, morning check-out), which had not been communicated beforehand. We were asked to pay an additional €100 to return the van later in the day, which we declined. After some back and forth, the original return time was eventually honored — though we later learned the van wasn’t booked before or after our trip, making the situation feel unnecessarily complicated. When we picked up the campervan, we encountered several maintenance issues: • A missing headlight bulb • Broken mirrors • A damaged side marker light • Windows that wouldn’t open • A fridge that malfunctioned and froze most of our food Additionally, on the first evening, the water pump began running constantly, then failed entirely by the time we reached our first stop — leaving us without water or use of shower/toilet facilities for the rest of the trip. To their credit, the support staff did their best to help remotely and sent over instructions and suggestions. Ultimately, the issue could not be resolved during the trip. After returning the camper, we reached out regarding a partial refund, given the condition of the van and the issues we experienced. Unfortunately, that conversation was not constructive and left us feeling dismissed. We still recommend exploring Ireland by campervan — it’s a great way to see the country — but based on our experience, we would personally choose a different provider next time. Note 1: We paid an increased rate when we changed our booking from a February weekend to St. Patrick’s weekend. Note 2: The campervan was returned at 14:15 on the agreed day of return.

My partner and I rented from Breakaway for a week, and it was the best decision we could have made! We managed to make it around the entire island. The camper had everything we needed. And most importantly, they had some of the best customer service I have ever experienced. Thank you Andres!!! I highly recommend this company for your trip to Ireland :)

My partner and I rented the carado last minute because of certain medical issues. Communication with Andres was great and he was so understanding, polite and helpful with everything. We received the camper from Philip who went over all the details with us. Everything was so easy and chill.We thought driving on the left but in the right seat would be a huge deal and it wasn't. The size of the vehicle was more intimidating than the driving but we got used to that rather quick. The camper was brand new and fully equipped as well as spotless clean. The bedding and mattress were so nice and comfortable. I highly recommend Break away campers and I would definitely rent again.

Couldn't recommend Breakaway Campers enough! We decided to go on a VERY last minute trip with a group of friends and Andres was more than helpful. He showed us everything around the van when we came to Dublin and was available to us throughout the whole stay. Moreover, the van was absolutely perfect, supplied with everything you could need. We will definitely recommend them to all our friends and hopefully will be back soon to see more of Ireland!
