The three-day canoe tour from Weilburg to Laurenburg is a scenic adventure along the Lahn River ideal for beginners, families, and groups. The tour begins at the Weilburg canoe station located in the city center parking garage near the unique Weilburg shipping tunnel. The first day covers approximately twenty-three kilometers to the campsite in Runkel, passing through the historic tunnel and several hand-operated locks. On the second day, the route continues along eighteen kilometers to Diez or Limburg, offering views of charming villages, castles, and riverbanks. Participants have the option to extend the journey to Diez, which includes two additional locks and an overnight stay at the Oranienstein campsite. The final day takes you on an eighteen-kilometer paddle from Diez to Laurenburg through tranquil Lahn Valley landscapes with two more locks before arriving directly under the road bridge in Laurenburg. Its close proximity to the train station allows for convenient onward travel. Along the way, paddlers experience calm waters, natural scenery, and cultural landmarks, making it a memorable self-guided river adventure.
Life jackets are mandatory for all children under twelve and non-swimmers, and thorough instruction is given before departure. Meals, accommodation, and return transportation are not included, giving travelers flexibility to plan according to their needs. All tour endpoints are near train stations, simplifying the return journey via the Lahn Valley Railway. The tour runs in all weather, so rain gear and appropriate clothing are recommended. Boats should reach the destination no later than six pm to ensure smooth organization. This canoe trip combines exercise, nature, and cultural sights for a relaxing and enjoyable experience along one of Germany’s most picturesque rivers.
