Our family recently visited Tuscany from Los Angeles. In planning for the trip and exploring options, we decided to splurge and book a truffle hunting, lunch and wine pairing experience with Truffle in Tuscany. What a wonderful decision that was! Our trip was in late November. We had a unique and memorable experience. Our party of 5 included three generations ranging in age from 21 to 83. In advance of the visit, I shared with Massimo my concerns about the terrain given that two in our party were in their 80s. Massimo has choices were to take people hunting, and the place we “hunted” with Melo (to be honest where Melo hunted and we followed!) was of a terrain navigable by our 80+ year old moms. It was peaceful to walk in the forest, following Melo, learning about truffles. And it was exciting when she found three truffles. After hunting, we returned to the Cucchiara property and met Letizia, Massimo’s sister, who prepared an incredible lunch for us, featuring four courses (2 with black truffles and 2 with white truffles) paired with four local wines We were able to watch her cook various elements of the meal, and she gave us tips on how to recognize authentic truffles, encouraging us to sample each type while preparing the food. As we oohed and aahed about the meal and wines, Letizia and Massimo’s father, Salvatore came into the space to show off the white truffles he had found that morning. It was an incredible several hours; we learned about truffles and the truffle-hunting life, we dined on delectable food paired with delicious wine, and we learned some cooking techniques and interesting pairings to try at home. I highly recommend the experience! After being home for over a month, all the family members who participated agreed this was one of the highlights of our trip. One last thing to note: this is not a drop-in experience. You need to make a reservation!

My husband and I went on the luxury experience a couple of days ago, and loved every second of it! Massimo picked us up from the train station. He is very knowledgeable about the truffles and shared generously! And we met the lovely Beci, his 10 year old lagrotto romagnolo who has been trained to hunt truffles since she was a puppy! She found a few for us, and it was really lovely to see her in action. We headed back to the house and met his other dogs and lovely sister Letizia, who cooked us a really simple but sumptuous truffle meal!! The amount of truffle used in the food was very generous. 8 year old Sky (a retriever) was our lovely companion at lunch, at our request. It was just an overall heartwarming and great experience— would highly recommend!!

This was the most amazing experience, and I was smiling so hard all morning. You get to meet all four dogs, and then head to the woods with lovely people and watch the chosen dog do what to them is a fun game. It’s like magic. I can’t think of a better way to spend the morning. We had a lot of luck and came back with four black truffles and one white one, and then Letitzia showed us how to cook an amazing meal with them and paired spot on local wines for eating. I cannot express what a great experience this was. Totally worth every penny.

We had the absolute pleasure of going truffle hunting in Tuscany with Massimo and his wonderful dog Mela, and it ended up being one of the highlights of our honeymoon. Massimo was incredibly knowledgeable and passionate about the land and the tradition of truffle hunting. He took the time to explain the history, the techniques, and even shared personal stories that made the experience feel so special. We ended up finding two black truffles! After the hunt, we were welcomed into Massimo’s family home, where his sister Letizia prepared a phenomenal four-course meal, all made from scratch and incorporating the truffles we had just found. Every dish was delicious and thoughtfully prepared, and the local wines and prosecco paired perfectly. The whole experience was warm, authentic, and unforgettable—like being welcomed into someone’s home, not just signing up for a tour. If you're in Tuscany, this is something you simply can’t miss. Would highly recommend—worth every penny!

Going on a truffle hunt with Massimo and Mela was a true highlight of our trip. Massimo provided fascinating insights into the history and recent trends of truffle cultivation, the different truffle varieties, and the principles of sustainable hunting. The experience culminated in a delicious meal of homemade truffle dishes paired with wine. For those without a car, pickup from San Miniato train station is available, which is easily accessible by train from Florence's Santa Maria Novella station.
