The basic self-guided tour of the Colosseum and Roman Forum is a fantastic experience, though there are some important logistics to keep in mind. We didn't realize that the two sites have separate entrances: while you must enter the Colosseum strictly at your booked time, the ticket allows you to visit the Forum up to 24 hours before or after, which offers great flexibility. The tour itself is excellent, allowing you to explore two levels and see the interior arena, although I found the English voice on the mobile audio guide a bit difficult to understand. While you get a nice view looking out toward the ruins, the absolute best view of the Colosseum is actually looking back at it from the hill inside the Roman Forum.
An unforgettable experience under the stars! We took the night tour of the Colosseum, and it was absolutely magical. Seeing this iconic landmark illuminated against the dark sky is a completely different experience from visiting during the day.
