Pearl Harbor Virtual Reality Tour Brings 1941 Attack to Life in Immersive Experience

A new immersive attraction at Pearl Harbor is allowing visitors to step directly into history through a National Park Service–supported virtual reality program. The experience recreates the events of December 7, 1941, using 360-degree visuals and guided storytelling, offering a detailed and emotionally engaging way to understand one of the most significant moments of World War II.

The program features four distinct VR scenarios that place participants in key perspectives of the attack. Visitors can witness the air raid as it unfolds, experience viewpoints from Japanese fighter aircraft, walk the decks of the USS Arizona Memorial, and explore underwater environments surrounding the sunken battleship. Each segment is designed to provide a layered understanding of the attack from multiple sides of history.

Beyond visual immersion, the experience incorporates historical narration covering naval strategy, aircraft types, and personal accounts of service members involved in the events. Guests are also introduced to lesser-known details, including structural features such as underwater compartments and preserved artifacts connected to the USS Arizona, deepening the educational impact of the tour.

The VR experience is designed to be accessible, with all equipment provided and simple instructions suitable for first-time users. Operating from the Pearl Harbor Visitor Center, the program emphasizes respectful engagement, historical reflection, and educational value.
