The Hike-in Island Sites at Harpers Ferry Campground offer a truly unique riverside camping experience on a peninsula that juts into the Potomac River. These basic yet distinctive sites put you directly on the water, with two sites fully exposed and surrounded by the river, while one shaded site has a more limited view. There is no vehicle access to the sites, so campers must carry gear a short distance from the parking area. These sites are weather-dependent and typically available only in summer and fall when river levels are lower. Each site accommodates two adults and two children under eighteen. In case of flooding or potential flooding, the campground may cancel reservations with a refund as its only liability, though staff will try to relocate guests to another site whenever possible.
Located just a short drive from Washington, DC and Baltimore, Harpers Ferry Campground offers primitive waterfront camping along a deep water section of the Potomac River. Guests can enjoy pontoon boating, fishing, water skiing, wake boarding, and jet skiing. Tent camping, RVs, and riverfront cabins with heating, air conditioning, and full bathrooms are all available for visitors. The finished bathhouse provides showers, and the RV dump station allows guests to empty sewage before leaving. The bathhouse is handicap accessible, ensuring comfort and convenience for all visitors while offering an immersive and scenic riverside experience.
