This experience is a 3 star for one reason. 95% of all the books were removed for refurbishment. That is the whole reason you go to see the Long room is for all the first edition books it held, Book of Kells, Gulliver's Travels and so on. Now, was it still worth seeing? Absolutely! It was worth seeing because only so many will get to see the Long Room empty in its nearly 300-year history. Would I go again? Yes, but only after the books return to the Long Room. I travel to Ireland and visit a few cities around the country by car. If you'd like to follow along and see hotel reviews in Cork, Kilkenny, Galway and Dublin. I think overall the experience was very interesting and educational. I learned a lot of new things about the many books, scribes and language. The long room is great for photos but unfortunately you can’t take any pictures of the fabled book of Kells. The red pavilion experience afterwards is unique and a little strange but cool for some pics. Would’ve liked a little more for my money but decent experience and in a nice area.
Book of Kells at Trinity College Dublin is absolutely worth a visit. The experience feels special without being overwhelming modern, well-designed, and easy to enjoy even if you’re not a history expert. The exhibition explains the story clearly with visuals and digital displays, and seeing the manuscript in person is truly unforgettable. The famous Long Room is stunning and very atmospheric. The site is wheelchair accessible, with helpful staff and elevators available. Public toilets are nearby, and while there’s no on-site visitor parking, public car parks are within walking distance.
