This is a great place to stay with your camper, motorhome or tent and as a plus, no caravans. Great views, great walks, shops that stock pretty much all you'd need and a good pub/bar and restaurant with room enough for some big numbers in peak seasons. Some spots could do with a bit of levelling, but if your not too fussy and prepared to 'jig about', you'll be fine. Tried some fishing, but came away with nothing. Plenty of baits and tackle in the store though. Campingaz is at a reasonable price here too and logs & firewood too. We were here the end of September / start of October. It was a bit windy and wet, but still enjoyed it.
We had a wonderful stay at Shell Island. It is so unique and unlike any campsite we've ever stayed at before. You can pitch up wherever you like and can move from day to day so you're not restricted to the same pitch. The views are stunning and you can walk for miles on the beach. I found the toilets and showers clean . The only washing up area is at the front near reception,which is a bit of a trek depending on where you are. Personally I think a few more around the site would be better. We found the on site shop a little expensive and just to get some take out chips was £7 for 2 portions . However we throughly enjoyed our stay and can't wait to come back next year.
Shell Island campsite is the best site I have stayed at. There are a wide variety of places to pitch your tent or park your motor home (no caravans allowed), from those with a view of the beach and sea to those with spectacular views of the mountains. There are a full range of services on site; toilets, showers, a supermarket, gift shop, camping shop, harbour cafe, restaurant and pizzeria and a small pub. The site staff are friendly and helpful. Prices to camp are reasonable, £61.50 for an adult and child for 3 nights. It is a busy site but due to the size of the site and 15m distance between pitches means that you don't feel crowded. The sunsets over the bay are a beautiful way to end the day. Would highly recommend.
