Belfast remains a city shaped by its turbulent past, where nearly 25 kilometers of Peace Walls still divide Protestant and Catholic communities. For over three decades, the era known as The Troubles brought intense political conflict and widespread hardship to its people. Nearly every resident was impacted by the violence, and its legacy is still visible today.
From this history emerged a powerful form of expression: murals. These striking artworks cover the walls of both communities, telling personal and collective stories of resistance, identity, and hope.
On this walking tour, you’ll explore both sides of the Peace Wall and discover the world-renowned murals that have transformed Belfast into the largest outdoor art gallery in the world. Along the way, your guide will share the history, meaning, and local perspectives behind each piece—offering a deeper understanding of the city’s complex past and evolving present.

Could not recommend this experience enough. The tour guide was BBB and I felt the information provided was somewhat biased but was presented with an edge of deeper truths as “this is just my side of the story” was a reoccurring theme. The history is fascinating, chilling, and important. No matter your background this is an important part of Belfast history you can’t miss.

We did the Conflicting Perspectives Black Taxi tour. This two hour tour was one of the most interesting historical experiences that I have ever done. This is by far the best way to learn about the Troubles in Belfast. The Black Taxi tours are such a unique experience, that you must do when you are in Belfast, you simply can’t miss it. Belfast Political Tours are also the best company for political tours in the city!

I highly recommend doing the Conflicting Stories walking tour. Full disclosure; I did already come in with more sympathy for the Republican side, and it was very moving to hear about our former political prisoner guide’s experiences. When we switched over to the Loyalist side, our guide was a bit younger during the conflict but shared what it was like surviving IRA attacks and knowing other children who were killed. I was hesitant initially, but I think it was a benefit to see both sides, even if it didn’t really change my political beliefs. Neither side has really disavowed what they fought for, but it was inspiring and hopeful to see both sides committed to the difficult process of peace and reconciliation and learning to coexist as humans. And I think a lot of people in our tour group benefited from seeing these views, whether they were from the Republic, England, Australia, the US, or Canada.

Michael our tour guide was excellent. I have no political opinion but I was amazed at the history of the tour & seeing all the great paintings on the buildings. Great People in a fantastic City of the UK

Emotive, passionate, personal, polarised, fascinating, appalling, sad, an unusual tour and unusual ow4spectives. Its not a studied educated history but is impactful personal experiential stories. Balanced by 2 opposing sides perspectives
