Beautiful park to visit during winter. The road to the park is narrow but there are dedicated places where cars can pass each other. Near the entrance the is a small restaurant where you can have a variety of drink and food items.

Riisitunturi National Park – January 2025 Group: Family of 4, children ages 5 & 7 🌄 Experience Summary After visiting Korouoma earlier the same day, we headed to Riisitunturi National Park. The snow-covered trees — heavily layered and sculpted by wind and frost — created an almost surreal landscape, especially as daylight faded. We brought headlamps with us, which turned out to be a great decision and allowed us to fully enjoy the hike despite the short January days. ⭐ Highlights • Iconic snow-laden trees that look straight out of a winter fairytale — truly unique scenery. • Well-marked trails that make winter hiking more approachable. • Magical atmosphere in low light and darkness when the snow reflects headlamp beams. 📝 Tips for Visitors (Families with kids) • Headlamps or flashlights are essential in winter afternoons — daylight is short and fades quickly. Don’t get caught by surprise on the way back in the dark. • Dress warmly: the open fell can be windy and significantly colder than forested areas. • Winter footwear with good traction and insulation is important; snow depth can be significant. On our visit, we didn’t need snowshoes or mini crampons. • Plan your timing carefully if combining Riisitunturi with another attraction on the same day. • Take breaks and let kids set the pace — the scenery itself provides plenty of motivation and great places to play in the snow. • Convenient parking is available at the trailhead. ⚠️ Observations • Weather conditions can change quickly, and visibility may drop. • Trails are suitable for families, but snow depth and cold temperatures make the hike more demanding than it looks. Be careful not to wander off the trail in uncertain areas — snow can be several meters deep in places.

Riisitunturi National Park – Breathtaking Scenery Above the Clouds We visited Riisitunturi National Park after exploring Korouoma Canyon earlier in the day, and it was absolutely worth the extra drive. Despite arriving later in the afternoon, we still caught the golden light of the setting sun, which made the snowy landscape even more magical. The views from the top are simply breathtaking — you feel like you’re standing alone above the world, surrounded by frozen trees and silence. The trail is well-marked and not too difficult, and the feeling of reaching the peak and soaking in that panoramic view is unforgettable. A must-see if you’re anywhere near Rovaniemi!

In my opinion the most beautiful national park in Finland. I visited during the summer and haven't seen Finland during the winter. But I went to quite a few national parks and this one is my favourite. There are multiple trails to choose from. They are between 1 and 27km long. I walked the 10km trail. The whole trail was well maintained. The short trails are also very family friendly. The longer ones can be more challenging for children and elderly.

Riisitunturi National Park – A Scenic Surprise in the Heart of Lapland We came to Riisitunturi with low expectations—and left thoroughly enchanted. Nestled at the edge of Lapland, this park offers a landscape unlike much of the rest of Finland, making it a refreshing discovery for any nature lover. The hike up to Riisi fell, is both gentle and rewarding. Along the way, you’ll encounter unique flora and fauna, offering a delightful contrast to southern parts of the country. At the summit, it’s a paradise for birdwatchers and photographers—cameras and binoculars abound.
