We got a didi from Beijing to this section of the wall. Took about 90 minutes to get there and 60 minutes to return. I would recommend going as early as you can. We arrived at around 8am and it was not busy at all. By the time we were leaving however it was very, very busy!! The wall itself is well restored. Great panoramic views to be had. We got the cable car up and down as this is what our ticket included but you can get the toboggan down.

Took the cable car up to tower 14 for RMB200 per pax. Tickets can be purchased on site and there is very little wait for the shuttle bus on the weekday. Then took the scenic walk down to tower 6 and took the toboggan down to the base. The walk down from tower 14 to 6 is basicallly easier than walk up to tower 20. There are more room for photo taking as there are less people compared to going up to tower 20. There are restroom up at tower 14 and 6 and along the wall there are small stalls selling snacks and drinks. Just prepare a good comfortable shoe to walk in. There are lots of fast food restaurants and coffee shops around the ticket office area. Lots of stalls selling souvenirs too. We took a didi to mutianyu ticket office from the city and had no problem hailing another didi from the ticket office back to beijing city.

This section of the Wall is beautifully restored — it’s easy to walk around, very accessible, and great for families. I recommend taking the cable car to the top. When you arrive, you’ll find a set of stairs in front of you, including one particularly steep section. If you’re with young children or anyone with mobility needs, take the path to the left instead — it allows you to skip the steep stairs while still enjoying the views. You can explore several sections of the Wall without needing to climb too many steps or tackle any difficult inclines.

An unforgettable experience! The Mutianyu section is beautifully restored, surrounded by green hills and incredible panoramic views. It’s less crowded than Badaling, which makes it perfect for photos and quiet walks along the wall. The cable car ride up and the toboggan ride down are both fun and offer great views. Walking on the ancient stones and imagining the history behind them is something truly special. Definitely one of the highlights of visiting China!

About an hour’s drive from Beijing, this section of the Great Wall is less crowded and easy to reach with Didi. From the car park, take a shuttle bus to the entrance (ticket required). You can then choose between two options to reach the Wall: the Cable Car (enclosed cabin) or the Cable Way (open lift chair). They’re run by different companies and need separate tickets. We chose the Cable Way, as it also offers the Toboggan ride—a fun and scenic way to descend. Note that riders must meet height and age requirements, and operate the sled themselves (including braking). Follow safety instructions and avoid slowing down for photos—professional photos are taken along the track, with the Wall as a backdrop, and can be purchased later. From the Cable Way station, it’s just a short walk to the Wall. Take your time to enjoy the breathtaking views and marvel at this incredible piece of history—truly an experience of a lifetime.
