Kentuck Knob is a beautiful Frank Lloyd Wright home located in the Laurel Highlands. Just a short drive from Fallingwater, it showcases Wrights Usonian style with stunning mountain views. Built in 1956 for I.N. and Bernardine Hagan, the home remained with the family for nearly thirty years. Later it became the retreat of Lord Peter Palumbo, who opened it to the public in 1996. Visitors can enjoy a 45-minute guided walking tour of both the interior and exterior. Tours are offered daily from 930 AM to 400 PM and are suitable for ages six and up. The home is surrounded by scenic woods and gardens making it perfect for photography and nature walks. Its design highlights Wrights philosophy of harmony with the environment and use of natural materials.
Kentuck Knob offers an intimate look at Wrights creativity in architecture and landscape design. Guests can learn about the unique features of the home, including the custom furniture and artwork integrated into the structure. The tour also emphasizes sustainable design elements that were innovative for the 1950s. Visitors often find inspiration in the seamless blending of indoor and outdoor spaces. The home provides an educational and cultural experience ideal for families, architecture enthusiasts, and nature lovers. It is recommended to check the schedule before visiting and plan for comfortable walking shoes. Photography is encouraged but tripods and large bags are not allowed inside. The surrounding area provides additional trails and scenic overlooks. A visit to Kentuck Knob complements a trip to Fallingwater, offering a full perspective on Wrights Usonian legacy.
