Getting to see the history of the ship while getting in my daily step goal was awesome. I went right around open, so there was hardly anyone there, so I didn't have to rush around the ship, the tour sections are easy to follow however if you are not a fan of tight spaces some of the tour sections are not your friend. They were doing some reconstruction work as well while I was there, some some sections were not fully done up. The Vietnam part of the tours was cool to see too as they had the planes and Hueys.
This was really cool to see and had A LOT more to offer than expected. One thing I didn’t know was that there are 4 different tours of the Yorktown alone!! You really do get to see most of the ship and you won’t get lost as long as your follow the signs. You also get to see another ship, helicopter, Medal of Honor museum, multiple aircraft’s and a Vietnam war outdoor exhibit which was really neat. Plan for at least 2 hours here and take your time. It’s incredible what these men and women go through to serve our country. This was such a cool experience and glad I was able to see this. I would say that this is a MUST do while in Charleston.
What a huge ship! We followed the tours and learned so much about this aircraft carrier. It was fascinating. A lot of ladders to climb up and down so be aware of that. I think there's an elevator, but I'm guessing it doesn't go to all the places. Just a wonderful experience and I especially loved the medal of Honor area, I learned so much.
