The Katla Ice Cave tour was amazing! After much consideration, opted to go on this tour over other ice caves further away since I am only visiting for a few days - and I am glad I did! I visited on January 5 (2026). The weather was perfect. Sunny, and not too cold (by comparison to colder winter days). I opted for the 10 am tour out of Vik, driving down from Reykjavik the same morning. The meeting location was easy to find. Our tour guide was great - very knowledgeable and helpful. This particular tour consisted of a smaller group, which was nice. The drive to and from the cave was good - very scenic. We stopped for photos about halfway to the cave in one of the most scenic areas I have seen on while Iceland so far. Once we arrived at the base is the cave, our guide provided a brief, but informative briefing and we were provided with safety equipment. We headed toward the entrance of the cave. Our guide took us to three different caves. Being winter, we were able to access more areas. The caves were all beautiful - deep blue ice, especially the first two caves. Some sections were mixed with volcanic ash giving a nice blue and black marbled look. The views from the cave entrance were also amazing. I highly recommend this trip, especially during the winter.
Siggi was an excellent tour guide who regaled us with stories of life in Iceland as we drove from our hotel in Reykjavik to the Karla Ice Caves, beating the rush of tours behind us. The caves and glacier experience was singularly amazing…. One of the best experiences of my life! My entire family including teenagers and twenty-somethings were awestruck. We then drove on the black sand beach to lunch in Vik at a brewery called Smidjan. On the way back we stopped at waterfalls. We were blessed with sun, clear skies and no wind, making the waterfalls incredible to experience up close. We blasted music and had a truly incredible day! This tour operator is excellent. Pro tip: ask for Siggi.
We had an amazing jeep tour into Landmannalaugar! The guide was so enthusiastic to haul down the F-roads and made lots of off-the-track stops for us at scenic areas. We also spent ~2 hours to hike and soak in the hot springs at Landmannalaugar. Definitely worth taking a tour to avoid driving the rough roads / river crossings in your rental vehicle.
