Beautiful lagoon. It's not too difficult to get to, but the altitude can be a problem. It's located at over 5000 meters.
I hiked to Laguna Charquini with a tour group. It’s a gentle climb over a well marked trail for about 2.5 km. The elevation at the starting point is 4600 m above mean sea level and the Laguna is located at 5024 m above mean sea level. Therefore the hike can be very tiering if you are not used to the low oxygen level in high altitudes. It is recommended that you spend about a week in high altitude (about 3500 m above mean sea level as in La Paz) before trying this hike because altitude sickness can really harm you. The landscape that hike through is amazing. We could spot Llamas, sheep and alpaca grazing in mountains and many interesting flora and fauna along the way. Lake Esmeralda is small but a feast to eyes. I loved the hike. Coca leaf tea I prepared in advance and the great determination and the beautiful scenery helped me to reach the Laguna and enjoy its beauty ❤️
Beautiful place, hiking's not that hard, so you can reach the lagoon by 1h. We've been there at July, it was full of ice, just be careful when you pretend you're Jesus.
