We booked a bear watching tour on the cruiser out of Ucluelet on Thanksgiving Monday and got lucky with some incredible weather. It was a well oiled machine and we were off on the boat in no time. We saw two different sets of mama bears with their cubs in tow as well as sea lions, seals and jellyfish. I liked the cruiser so we could get a break from the wind if needed and I imagine it would be wonderful on a rainy day. Our guide was nice but I wish he would have spoken more about the area we were in as well as the animals we were seeing, I felt like we had to ask questions constantly rather then hear him monologue about it. All in all, it was a great day on the water.
So amazing’ we lucked out with the best weather in weeks. We saw sea lions, otters, humpbacks and the spouts ! And a mamma bear and cub as we came back into the bay at the end of the tour. I guide was knowledgeable and skilled (I forget her name but she’s been sailing for Jamie’s for 5 years and does about 3 tours a day)
We went on the whale watching trip with captain Scott. Very quickly we ran into a couple of hump backs and spent a good time observing them. Then we went on to see sea lions, seals, otters and eagles. The captain was very experienced and knowledgeable and made our trip a great success.
