Welcome to a flavorful and culturally rich tour that combines the best of Tirana's history, architecture, and traditional Albanian cuisine. To fully enjoy the experience, participants are advised to keep their hotel breakfasts light, as the day promises a variety of delicious tastings. The tour begins in one of Tirana’s oldest and most vibrant districts, the New Bazaar (Pazari i Ri), where local life unfolds in colorful markets and historic corners. Here, you’ll visit the Kokonozi Mosque and browse one of the city's most popular markets, offering everything from fresh meat and fish to fruits, vegetables, and artisanal cheeses sourced directly from Albanian farmers. The journey continues with a stop at a beloved local pastry shop, where you'll get to try the iconic meringue pie. This soft yet crunchy dessert is a nostalgic treat that dates back to the communist era, and though it’s made in various forms today, this shop holds the key to the original recipe.
After lunch, the tour moves through Tirana’s pedestrian avenue, an open-air gallery featuring striking works of contemporary art. From there, you’ll arrive at the Justinian Fortress, also known as the Castle of Tirana, situated in the heart of the city. Once an important administrative hub for the ruling powers throughout Tirana's history, the area has since been revitalized into a lively center with boutique shops and trendy cafés. Here, you’ll stop by a shop dedicated to the story of olive oil, where you’ll learn how to taste oil like a connoisseur and uncover the ancient traditions of olive cultivation in Albania. The final stop of the tour brings you to a charming local grocery store that proudly stocks 100% Albanian products. You'll enjoy tastings of regional jams, cheeses, herbs, and the traditional Albanian spirit, raki, rounding off your experience with a full immersion into the authentic tastes and aromas of Albania.

We did this wonderful tour with the Choose Balkans team who were outstanding from start to finish! I spoke to Sirma who helped me so much with all the info we needed (meeting place etc) and was so friendly and kind. Markel carried out our tour and he really was great fun, so clever and learnt so many great facts about Albanian history and culture! And the FOOD - do not eat before you come on this tour lol you get so much lovely local food in proper authentic places, would recommend to anyone, thank you so much it was a delight! ❤️

we did the tour as a couple and wanted to see more than just the highlights, what you find in online guides. Our amazing guide Brikena was extremely knowledgeble and also was flexible to our needs in where we needed more time. The tour had several stops to get food (it started with a delicious snack at the beginning), but the highlight was the last stop at a Kommunist bar with the most important "holy water" - the RAKI. Brikena also gave us insight in life and culture of Albanian people and we even learned some vocabularies for our next visit. She didn't monitor the time strictly - so our tour was almost one hour longer, because we had so much to ask and to see. We can absolutely recommend this tour and our guide.

My 14yr old son and I went on the food and walking tour of Tirana. We started a few minutes late, but ended up more than making up for it during and after the tour. The food stops, history, and paths we toook around the city all were off the beaten path. Our guide, Markel, was excellent at listening to our preferences and making it as personalized as possible (ie- giving my son extra shopping places to try :) We enjoyed every moment and even retraced most of the tour on our own later in the day to revisit some of our favorite places we wanted to explore more. Thank you!

Excellent tour. Great local foods which included breakfast and lunch and lots of snacks. The tour guide, Markel, included several markets we would not have found on our own. Great walking tour to get an overview of the city
