Incredible experience - but plan your timing and fuel! One of the coolest things I have done in Thailand. The “sticky” name is not a gimmick - the grip you get on the limestone under the waterfall is genuinely amazing. You can climb straight up through the water with confidence, which I have never experienced at any other waterfall. What makes it special: The waterfall has multiple levels (numbered sections) that you climb up through. The sensation of having such solid grip while water flows around you is wild. If you have been to famous waterfalls like Yosemite, this is a completely different experience - less about size, more about interaction. Practical tips: - Opens until 16:30 - we arrived at 16:00 and barely made it. Give yourself at least 2 hours. - Leave your shoes at the top (you will see where others leave theirs) - You WILL get wet - bring clothes to change into or wear swimwear - About 1 hour by scooter from central Chiang Mai Bottom line: Not just a waterfall to look at - this is an adventure. Absolutely worth the ride out there. Just plan your timing and tank properly.
Very interesting cascading waterfall where the stones are mineral deposits formed from nearby spring water. The surface of the stone has a sandy feel, giving it a "sticky" texture, hence the name. You generally could stand on it without slipping. Entry is free, but registering at entrance is required. Closure time is 4.30pm. The Rangers will start their sirens to chase you out at closure time strictly. A worthy visit you won't regret.
Quite far away from the city, the road here is tranquil and includes some great views. The waterfall route was crowded, but was amazing. The rocks were smooth and surprisingly not slippery, except for some spots (look out for green spots). There are ropes for you too pull on for stability, just prepare get wet!
