The Leaning Tower of Pisa is one of the most famous monuments in the world. It is located in Pisa, a city in the Tuscany region of Italy. The tower is well known for its unusual tilt, which makes it different from all other towers. Instead of standing straight, it leans to one side, and this unique feature attracts millions of tourists every year. Construction of the tower began in 1173 AD. It was built as a bell tower for the Pisa Cathedral. Due to weak soil and a shallow foundation, the tower started leaning during its early construction. The building process continued for almost 200 years, with several breaks caused by wars and financial problems. These delays helped the structure remain standing and prevented it from collapsing. The tower is about 56 meters tall and has eight levels, including the bell chamber at the top. It is made of white marble and follows the Romanesque architectural style, with beautiful columns and arches. At the top of the tower, there are seven bells, each producing a different musical note. Today, the Leaning Tower of Pisa is completely safe for visitors. Modern engineering techniques have stabilized it while keeping its famous tilt. Tourists enjoy taking creative photographs, often pretending to support the leaning tower with their hands. Visitors can also climb the spiral staircase to the top and enjoy a beautiful view of the city. The tower is located in the Piazza dei Miracoli, along with the Pisa Cathedral and Baptistery. We went in Florence for few days and we decided to go and see the Tower of Pisa. Very easy to go by train, you have around 20 trains per day between Florence and Pisa. The train takes between 1h and 90 min ( depends how many stops ) and cost around 20 euro total for Florence-Pisa-Florence. Ask for an open ticket to let you take any train you want. We arrived in Pisa around 10AM and we walked in direction of the tower. We did t know what to expect and having no expectations resulted on big excitement - the complex is just magnificent , nice architecture and lot of history on that place. Was a monastery, an academic place ( Fibonacci was working there ) and you can visit the cathedral, the Opera , the old sepulture , the old fortification wall and of course the tower. We did t know you can walk up to top of the tower - we got tickets to visit all and this included a tower visit. The visit is an a certain time and five to the opportunity to walk up to the top where the bells are. The experience is one in life. What you need to know: you cannot get any bags with you in tower - you need to let your bags in a special secure place not far from tower. When you go up if yo go at noon the bells will ring - they will snide you about that. The sound is impressive - be prepared. Also to go up you have around 280 steps and the inclination of the tower will add more complexity to your ascension. Keep this in mind when you book.
I visited the Tower of Pisa in December, and it was truly an amazing experience. Seeing this iconic landmark in person was unforgettable,the lean of the tower is even more impressive than in photos. The atmosphere around Piazza dei Miracoli was calm and beautiful during winter, with fewer crowds, which made the visit even more enjoyable. The architecture, the history behind the tower, and the surrounding cathedral and baptistery all added to the magic of the place. Walking around the square, taking photos, and learning about how the tower has stood for centuries despite its tilt was fascinating. Overall, it was a memorable visit and definitely one of the highlights of my trip to Italy.
