wonderful archeological site which is excavated very well and maintained perfectly. a mist go place for people who loves history and cherish monuments. this place makes you think about the intelligence of people who made this place in those times. it takes around 1 hour to explore the site and then there is a museam here of the artifacts found during evacuation which are displayed meticulously. must visit place of you are travelling to kutch and rann
Though site displays ancient civilizations it is well preserved but authorities are ignoring tourists. Boards are not maintained. No guide service is available. Visitors are wandering here and there and directionless. No signs how to walk it's open. We reached on Dholvira festival day and lot of preparations were going on for festival without bothering tourist intrest. I wondered whether such festivals are for attracting tourists or demoralising them. It's not encouraging to visit here. We avoided remarks from our friends who visited here earlier. They mentioned it clearly do not visit as it is waste of time. Unfortunately authorities here made it happen and I also strongly recommend not to waste time if you are in group. If you want to study old civilisation then it's nice place but visit here from study point of view with your own reading and knowledge. Visited so many good tourist places in Gujarat and was happy the way these places are maintained and offered tourist. Visited this place with lot of expectations but authorities here made this place exception to vibrant Gujarat. Need dramatic improvement in offereing of this place to common touriest. Our experience is pathetic even though it's a festival here I really do not know what will be situation on normal days.
Dholavira is often described as the "crown jewel" of the Indus Valley Civilization (IVC). Located on Khadir Bet island in the Great Rann of Kutch, Gujarat, it represents the pinnacle of ancient urban engineering and social organization. While other Harappan cities like Mohenjo-Daro relied on perennial rivers, Dholavira was a pioneer in rainwater harvesting The city was surrounded by a massive network of 16 interconnected reservoirs. They built check dams on the seasonal streams (Mansar and Manhar) and used stone-cut channels to divert every drop of monsoon rain into storage. While other sites used mud-brick, Dholavira was built primarily of polished stone, contributing to its remarkable preservation over millennia. I would also like to comment that such a beautiful heritage site, is being spoilt for visitors. At least proper toilets should be provided. Such dirty toilets, and no one to maintain them. Above all,no water. This should be improved.
