I loved this city, built around Kandy lake. It's clean, was drizzling and very pleasant when we visited in the 3rd week of October. Temple of tooth relic is somewhat in downtown Kandy. There are lovely cafes and curio shops around this place, along with the wax museum, e quiet and beautiful church, some more mandirs, two museums, and an elephant bathing area about 100m behind the temple. If you are in Kandy, you may want to visit the Gem museum. They also manufacture jewellery there, right in front of you. Sri Lanka is know for its sapphire and other semi precious gems. A 5.4 km walk circumferencing the Kandy lake in the evening is a highly suggested exercise.
The Temple of the Sacred Tooth Relic is a beautiful and fascinating place, always filled with worshippers bringing flowers and other offerings in thanks for having their prayers answered.
The entrance fee is rather steep at 2000 rupies for foreigners. Also you can't pay with bank card which is stupid.. Its a nice visit tho to this unesco sight and the museum (included) is a good quick visit too. Quiet busy at normal hours so try to be early I suppose.
