This was one of the worst experiences I’ve ever had in all my years of traveling around the world. It’s not really a whale watching tour at all. In reality, it consists of going out in a boat that never gets far from the harbor and then chasing poor whales, disturbing their peace. Every time a tail or even the smallest water spout appears, the boat rushes toward the unfortunate whale, which of course gets scared and swims away. In 2026, activities like this should be banned. Neither my family nor I would ever have joined had we known it was something so barbaric. I strongly suggest the company rename it to what it truly is: “Join us and go to bother the whales.” Stay away, this is a complete waste of money.

We went whale watching with Elding Whale Watching in the dead of winter, and it was a wonderful experience overall. Even in the colder season, the conditions were amazing. The water was incredibly calm, making for a smooth and comfortable ride. We were lucky enough to spot a whale known as Banana and even captured a beautiful fluke shot before it settled back into logging mode and went back to sleep. While the whale activity was on the quieter side, that’s simply nature doing its thing, and the crew was very honest and informative throughout the tour. In addition to the whale sighting, we saw plenty of water birds, which added to the experience. The coffee and hot chocolate on board were especially welcome and helped keep everyone warm while enjoying the scenery. The crew was friendly, knowledgeable, and clearly passionate about marine life. While we would have loved to see more whale activity, we fully understand that Mother Nature sets the schedule. Overall, it was a great tour and a memorable winter experience. I would absolutely recommend Elding for anyone visiting Iceland and hoping to see whales in their natural environment.

We enjoyed our whale watching trip putting aside the price. Our boat never left the harbor - Reykjavik was always in sight. We saw two humpback whales quickly then the remainder of the tour was dedicated to just following these ones in circles. Seeing as it was late November, it was quite brutal on the upper deck for over an hour in the wind. We eventually went inside the cabin since we were just seeing the same two whales over and over again. We were able to get some pretty good pictures - the guide takes pictures throughout as well that were emailed to us afterwards.

Everyone was so nice, the crew was interactive knowledgeable and hilarious. We saw Humpbacks and Minke whales. They worked hard to ensure we got to see as much as they could find while still being respectful of the wildlife and their boundaries. But the best part is they send you free downloadable pictures of the animals you saw during your tour, so you don’t have to worry about not catching good pictures. Highly recommend.

We had a nice and pleasant tour on a friday evening in August. We have not seen that many whale fish etc, but the crew was really excietet to show us these animals and they did everythig they could do. Finally we saw some whales. for a moment, which was absolutely okay for us. The crew insisted to give us a voucher for another trip, for free, which we think is very fair or even more than fair. Very recommendable company, would go there next time again. Thanks a lot.

The only boat out there looking for whales, which felt great to not bother them too much while they were eating. The guide helping us finding them was very nice and told us a lot of information. Pleasant boat trip, did not need my sea sickness prevention pills at all for this event. Would love to go another time.
