6 Stars if it were possible. Excellence Class does exactly what it says on the tin. Go on treat yourself. It's AMAZING! A once in a lifetime thing. Unforgettable, incredible...... I could exhaust the dictionary and still be looking for a word that does it justice. From the very start it's special. To the very end it's a fabulous thing to do. A last look at yhe magnificent Matterhorn before you head to St Moritz. 'bout 8 hours of being spoiled daft. Spoiled by the scenery, spoiled by the Swiss precision and engineering, spoiled by the wonderful staff you're looked after by for the next 8 hours. Do it. You won't regret it. Oh, and the Landwasser Viaduct..... No photo. Not because I didnt want to; fluffed it!!! Espece de canard!
Honestly, it was quite a disappointing train ride. Firstly, we were informed of the wrong cabin by the ground staff, which resulted in us having to push our luggage through the train to find the correct cabin. Secondly, moving luggage between cabins was difficult due to the uneven flooring. My wife struggled to push her luggage while walking ahead of me, and because the walkway was narrow, I was unable to move forward to help her. A male staff member was standing nearby but did not offer any assistance, simply watching her struggle. Thirdly, the service staff spoke loudly, appeared confused, and repeatedly mistook neighboring passengers for other passengers. Fourthly, the reflections on the windows were extremely bad. Taking photos was almost impossible, and even without photographing, it was difficult to enjoy the scenery due to the constant glare and reflections. Lastly, as many others have mentioned, the Glacier Express runs on the same route as regular service trains. It is not significantly faster and mainly saves passengers the hassle of changing trains. Overall, I would say it is not worth it. Taking regular trains is a better option, and some of these trains even have windows that can be opened, allowing you to enjoy the scenery much more.
Totally worth it if you like sightseeing. Did Zermatt to St. Moritz straight, first class, sat on the single seats. Single seats were best for the most part of the trip on this direction. Only the last 2 hrs near St. Moritz would’ve been better to seat on the double seats. At that point the train has free seats and I was able to move around for the best views. First class totally worth it for the service of drinks and food with a waiter
