Immerse yourself in the cider culture of the Basque Country on this 4-hour guided tour from San Sebastián. With private air-conditioned transport and hotel pick-up and drop-off, you will visit a traditional cider house to learn how cider, or sagardo in Basque, is made from apple orchards to barrels. Your local guide explains the varieties of apples, harvesting and pressing techniques, and natural fermentation, giving insight into the centuries-old traditions of Basque cider production.
The experience continues with the legendary txotx ritual, sampling cider directly from the barrel, followed by a traditional cider house menu featuring cod omelet, fried cod, grilled steak, and dessert of cheese with quince paste and walnuts. Paired with an open cider bar, this small-group tour provides a hands-on and authentic taste of Basque culture. It is ideal for food lovers, curious travelers, and those wanting a memorable and educational experience of the region’s culinary heritage.

This was my favourite meal over a 5 day trip to San Sebastian. Feels very authentic, with mostly locals eating there and minimal English spoken by staff. The food is all incredibly delicious, the service prompt and friendly, and the cider and steak was unlimited. All for €40 per person! Couldn't recommend more highly!

Lizeaga cider house is a 'must do' destination in the Basque region. It is a magic way to see authentic rural life and enjoy a typical banquet. They offer a set menu consisting of quality local produce in generous portions...no one leaves hungry! The cider has a unique taste and compliments the food perfectly. Days tours with transport can be booked via Sans Sebastian tourist information.

Great, local place with loads of history and excellent service. Everything we ate was incredible. If you don't have a reservation, go as soon as they open and checkout the tours they do that include the full menu.

Wonderful experience! We had a set menu of tortillas (you can choose between three options, we chose regular, chorizo and ham), cod, steak and tomato salad and the typical basque desert with cheese, jam and walnuts. All dishes were incredible! We were a group of 9 people and had soooo much food, we definitely left full for several days but it was so delicious. The flavour of the meat was great and the tomato salad was beautifully seasoned with only salt and garlic. The service was super attentive and brought us bottle after bottle. The only sad thing is, we didn’t get to pour cider from the barrels but I guess it depends on where you go to have this experience. Either way, it was such a wonderful experience and I’d def do it again!

If your visiting A MUST!!! Very local spot literally no tourist there but the full authentic Basque Experience. We spoke to different people in the restaurant everyone was so friendly and everyone was local. I have never been to a cider house but this was an experience in itself. The menu is pre-set. Affordable. For 2 we spent 62 Euro including 2 bottles of cider. Originally people would come taste different ciders and choose which ones they want to buy. So people wouldn’t get drunk while trying the ciders they started feeding them which is what now has come to toast have the Cider houses. The Cider: Amazing first off! But they have their own way of pouring and drinking them. Don’t just fill the cider to the top. It is taken very much like a shot. Ask the server first how to drink it. The Food: Wow! The steak is really unbelievable. Probably one of the best that I have had being here this past week. Really Cooked properly and the way the cook it in this region. (Usually on the rare side) Very good! They have an authentic cheese, walnut and guava desert that is truest authentic. What’s different with this house is you can order ice cream. Overall amazing. So glad we stumbled across this place on our last night here.
