Our guide was very kind and explained the uses and seasons of all the plants in great detail. However, it felt more like an educational garden than an actual spice farm — there were only a few plants of each type. Anyone expecting a large spice plantation might be disappointed. After all the advertising that’s done for the spice farms in Zanzibar, this was actually a bit underwhelming. The small on-site spice shop has quite high prices, and you can find the same products much cheaper at the market in Stone Town (even without bargaining). Also, the spices sold there don’t come from their own farm.

The tour was a fantastic experience! Our guide Shazilie was incredibly knowledgeable and passionate, sharing detailed insights about medicinal plants, botanical species, trees, fruits, and of course, spices. Throughout the tour, he crafted small gifts from palm leaves, which added a personal and creative touch. We had the chance to see, smell, and taste a wide variety of spices – truly engaging for all senses. The tour lasted about an hour, but the guide was happy to stay longer and answer all our questions. You could really tell he enjoys what he does, and that made the whole experience even more enjoyable.

Great experience with a very good guide. He explained us everything about all types of local plants and spices. He gave us nice gift made of leaves and even showed us how to climb coconut trees. The tour was very entertaining and we recommend it !

Asante sana Shazilie!! we spent such a lovely time with you during the visit at Jozani Spice Farm. your kindness, knowledge (and help removing riccio di mare’s spine with papaya’s milk) made our experience unique. thank you sooo much, we highly recommend it 🤗

Shazilie, our guide, was great! Really knowledgeable, kind and friendly. We learned a lot of things, great value for money considering all other prices for tourists. Ps. They have a mango tree that is probably over 150 years old…
