An interesting place to visit, thought you do have to be up early. Great place to get photos of local life, but don’t forget to ask permission to take a photo first!

Early morning experience is good - to get fresh flowers and in case, you want to feel the unfiltered vibe of the city. It's a wholesale flower market on the banks of the river...the road is unpaved and squishy, comfortable footwear with good grip is recommended.

Located beneath the iconic Howrah Bridge, Mullick Ghat Flower Market is one of the oldest and largest flower markets in Asia. Dating back to 1855, it is a vibrant hub where hundreds of vendors gather daily to sell fresh flowers like marigolds, roses, tuberoses, lilies, and lotuses. The market comes alive as early as 4:00 AM, with peak activity till 8:00 AM. Traders, wholesalers, and buyers from across the city and even from neighbouring states come here to buy flowers for temples, weddings, rituals, and festivals. The air is filled with fragrance, and the pathways are lined with heaps of colourful blooms, creating a visual and sensory treat. Though crowded and often muddy, the market reflects Kolkata’s cultural and spiritual rhythm. You’ll see garland-making in action, deals being negotiated, and porters carrying massive flower bundles on their heads. It’s also a favourite spot for photographers, especially during sunrise with the bridge in the backdrop. ✅ Tips for Visitors: Best time to visit: Between 5 AM – 7 AM Footwear: Wear closed shoes; the ground is often wet. Entry: Free, no formal gate or ticket. Getting there: A short walk from Howrah railway station or Strand Road. 🌟 Final Words: Mullick Ghat Flower Market is not just a market—it’s an experience. It’s where commerce meets culture, and tradition thrives in every petal. A must-visit for those who want to feel the raw, authentic energy of Kolkata.

Hello visitor, my name is Somnath, I am a Google Verified Local Guide and an adventure lover. I visited Mallik Ghat Flower Market yesterday. • Mallik Ghat is one of the most popular places in Kolkata. It is located on the banks of the Hooghly River and below the Howrah Bridge. • This is a very beautiful place. More than fifty thousand people come here every day. Because some come to buy flowers from the flower market, and some come to visit this wonderful beautiful place. • Mallick Ghat Flower Market is the largest flower market in Kolkata and is one of the most popular places to visit. • Mallick Ghat Flower Market is a favorite place for photographers. • It would not be wrong to say that the place is the biggest flower market in Kolkata.I solely visited this place for the experience and it was undoubtedly a great one. I had walked all the way under the scorching sun and was tired by the time I reached, but the moment I entered the place it filled me up with energy from the crowd. The place was bustling with people and flowers being sold everywhere. The aroma from the variety of flowers here and there filled up the air with a unheard fragrance. It felt so fresh and the constant bargaining going around everywhere bought a smile to my face. The place is pretty nice, the only drawback is that the place is a bit dirty and when it rains, the surroundings become a muddy mess.A little maintenance is needed here, then everything will be fine.
