One can experience a musical puppet show portraying the rich heritage, history and culture of Vietnam. The unique thing about it is that the puppet dance occurs on water, and the music is performed live by artists sitting on the side of the stage. The show is around 45 minutes long and the tickets sell out pretty fast. Couple of annoying facts though:- - the queues to the counter are long, but they do NOT accept any card payment. It's cash ONLY !! - the performance is in Vietnamese only, so it's pretty cumbersome for any foreigner to understand. One can rent/buy some translator machines only if they reach like 30 minutes early. We were right on time, so unfortunately we were not blessed with that Suggestion :- it's a great piece of work by the artists, and a unique show. Pls make it convenient for the tourists, so they can fully appreciate the content

The Thang Long Water Puppet Show is a great experience for all ages in Hanoi. We reserved in October for a showing in January 2026, but you can buy tickets even on the day of. I reserved by using the email on the website, you don't need to go through 3rd party websites. Then I went to pay and pick up the tickets the day before. When you reserve, you can choose from 3 seating zones. You cannot choose your exact seats, they are assigned. We chose the most expensive zone for 200k and were placed in the second row. I would recommend showing up 10-15 minutes in advance with your tickets already paid for to get seated before the show begins and not annoy other spectators. We did not take the audio guide, I don't think it's necessary to enjoy the stories which feature characters like farmers, duckherders, royalty and the 4 legendary animals dragon, kirin, turtle, and phoenix. The puppetry is amazing and the live music is also very impressive. The show lasts 50 minutes without any intermission.

The theater is always packed, which speaks volumes about how popular and loved this show is. Overall, this is a must-see cultural highlight in Hanoi — a perfect blend of art, history, and entertainment! 🌊🐉

Having seen few puppet shows while growing up, this one was a different experience as water adds specific element and relatable to story telling. A must watch if you have time and consider opting first few rows as sitting in back rows may not give good experience when seeing small puppets. Kids friendly and they even provide extra cushion seat for younger kids. Better to book online as when we went the place was crowded and shows were already booked. Onle downside of booking online is that you can select the section but not the seats. Overall, a great show.

Do yourself a favor and book your tickets early using platforms like Klook. This ensures you secure your spot and often provides better access to desired seating. ​Arrive Early and Get the Translator: While the performance is visually engaging, the dialogue and songs are entirely in Vietnamese. Arrive at least 30 minutes early to purchase or rent the translator device (headset). This small investment will significantly enhance your experience by letting you understand the fascinating folk stories and legends being acted out. ​Choose Your Seat Wisely: If you book ahead, aim for the middle rows for the best overall view of the action.
