Our visit to the falls was part of a longer organized trip. After a bus from Bavaro to Capitan and a boat ride to Samana we took ponies to the falls and then back again. Sad thing is that apparently nobody there is paid. Horses and handlers volunteer to take tourists to the falls so they need tips to survive and continue their benevolent existence. Park pass bracelet and associated 100 DOP were included in the cost of the trip.

first of all if you are a Tourist BEAWARE of the slick tricky Schems put in place by the Locals. It only cost about $2.00 us dollars to take the hike by your self that is if you are in a good shape,,there are some locals standing on the side of the Road offering this tours by horses for about$18.00 dollars--dishonest individuals that that even if you ask to explain in details they fail to disclose the whole information... you paid ahead, the horses most of them are very bad abuse suffering from malnutrition, then you get on the horse about 10 minutes away the guide begin saying that he does not get pay by the association, that he deserves getting tips, that the tips is his only income, without me asking he the guide start to say that at times he collects $80-$50 the least $40, these are us dollars he said that he only get to guidetourist twice per week, that he has childrens he the guide will do and say what ever he can to get what he mentions. the firts guy told me that i could stay at the waterfall for up to two hours the guide begin to direct me to come out within 45 minutes and say that we had to go back,at the end gave him $30 he did not look happy, did not say thank you.....

This waterfall is absolutely beautiful, featuring two stunning cascades. My friend and I hiked with a guide, but later realized we were pressured into thinking we couldn’t go alone. We chose not to ride horses out of respect for them, and in the end, we learned that both the guide and the horses were optional. It was a valuable lesson and a great experience overall. Here are some important details to know before you go: 1) Entrance fee: $100 pesos (cash only). 2) You are not required to hire a guide—it's completely optional. 3) Wear waterproof hiking sandals, as the trail includes rocks, steep hills, and some horse droppings. 4) Horses are available for those who prefer to ride. 5) You can swim if you want! Be safe and have fun!

The way that the horses are treated is gnarly bad. The people are nice and if you do decide to ride thw horses please bring food for them. Many of the horses are being put through immense stress and look like they are starving. During the whole walk I saw nearly 100 horses and not one of them would look me in the eye. The pain that these animals feel must be so very bad. Please treat them with love because you are the only person they have.
