If it's your first time in Athens this archaeological site is a must-see! Make sure to purchase your ticket in advance and via the official site only. I wasn't expecting the elevation to be as high as it was so I was bit nervous walking up those slippery steps but there are so many ppl so if you do slip the ppl around you will break your fall hahaha. There is a time slot for entry but no need to rush as my friends and I left when the site was closing for the day. Choose a time slot when it is somewhat the cooler part of the day (or getting cooler) so towards the end of the day or first thing in the morning. Of course if you're short on time then you're just going to have to take whichever time slot you can a ticket for on the day you require. Wear comfortable walking shoes or sandals and don't forget your water bottle, hat and SPF 50. I was here in the last week of Sept and it was still very hot so be prepared to sweat. Once you reach the summit however, there is a nice breeze and of course fantastic views of the city beneath. It would've been nice to have more evening slots but this is perhaps only possible during summer when there is daylight saving. Great location with a dedicated train stop but you'll still need to walk to one of the two entrances.
We have the luck to be in Acropolis when there is no crowd in January We have the best impressions one can have I think. Everything was clean, the staff was polite and the ancient buildings were well taken care of. When you enter the ancient "gate" and see the Parthenon for the first time it really leaves impression of something spectacular!
Buy tickets online, maybe in advance if you go on the weekend otherwise you can do it once you arrive. We had no line on Friday. It's expensive but a must see in Athens. We recommend sneakers since there's a lot of rocky floors and actual rocks around the structures- I've seen a woman wear heels and fall before so trust me. Not recommended to purchase a tour, just download an app with navigation and information. It was really nice and we could take our time sitting and watching. Not many bathrooms and no cafe, however there is a cheap water bottle vending machine at the top, 50 euros. I am giving it a 3.5-4/5 because of the cost compared to other countries' tourist/historic monuments- it's high. I agree with the other reviewer that it just doesn't seem justified given what you can see: they should include the museum in the fee because the museum is small and overpriced. It was neat to see everything but it's very destroyed, it's a shame. You can see the lighter areas on the structures are the rebuilt areas. It was cool to see the workers actively restoring while we were there. It was a cloudy day but not hot- perfect! Also saw 2 cats. I think if we dressed as a cat we could've snuck in?
