Customer Reviews

I asked a friend from Rome for places to recommend when visiting Rome. He instantly said Giolitti as the first mandatory visit. And he was right. It is a bit chaotic if you walk in for the first time but it is actually quite simple. You buy a “voucher” at the entrance/exit based on how many scoops of ice cream you want. THEN you go to the till to order your gelato. And if you cannot decide let’s just say that whatever you choose will be the best version of chosen flavour you ever had. Period. The staff is sweet, the allergens like milk are labelled and the taste is to die for. Be aware that even if you are lactose intolerant, vegan or do not eat products derived from cows: the selection is huuuge. As I cannot eat dairy I did not expect to have a large variety available, but the selection is insane. My favourite is the dark cherry and limoncello. My husband swears that orange and melon have saved his life. While our first trip to Rome ( 5 days stay) we went to Giolitti 11 times. I am not exaggerating. It simply was that good. When my husband had a client for work asking for a meet up and he was located in Rome, my husband who hates travelling for work offered to fly out so he could go to Giolitti again. So all in all: yes Giolitti is everything and more for anyone that loves gelato

Lives up to the hype — smooth, creamy gelato done right Found Giolitti through Instagram claiming to have the best gelato, and I’m glad I tried it — it did not disappoint. The gelato is very smooth and very creamy, exactly how good gelato should be. Rich in flavor without being icy or grainy. The cone itself isn’t anything special, but honestly, you don’t come here for the cone — you come here for the gelato, and it delivers. Definitely one of the better gelato experiences I had in Rome.

Giolitti is not just a gelato shop — it is a Roman institution, and from the first taste you immediately understand why. The moment you walk in, you are greeted by the lively atmosphere of a place loved by both locals and visitors for generations. The display of classic and refined flavors is elegant rather than overwhelming, each one crafted with unmistakable quality. The gelato itself is exceptional: creamy, rich, and incredibly smooth, with flavors that taste natural, pure, and perfectly balanced. The pistachio has a deep, authentic nuttiness; the hazelnut is velvety; the fruit flavors burst with freshness; and the dark chocolate is wonderfully intense without being too sweet. The whipped cream on top — a Giolitti signature — is light, fresh, and elevates the experience even more. Despite the crowds, the service is efficient, and the old-world charm of the interior adds to the magic. You feel like you’re stepping into a piece of Roman history. Whether it’s your first time in Rome or your tenth, Giolitti remains an absolute must. It’s one of those rare places that truly lives up to its reputation. Exceptional in every way.
