If you’re exploring Iceland’s south coast, Jökulsárlón is one of those stops that feels essential. It’s not just a viewpoint—it’s a living, shifting landscape that captures the raw beauty and scale of the country’s natural forces. The lagoon itself is filled with floating icebergs that have calved from the Breiðamerkurjökull glacier, and the sight of them drifting slowly toward the sea is both calming and surreal. The viewpoint offers a wide, unobstructed perspective of the lagoon, with the glacier looming in the background and seals often spotted weaving between the ice. It’s quiet, expansive, and constantly changing depending on the light, weather, and movement of the ice. Whether you arrive under clear skies or low-hanging mist, the atmosphere is cinematic and deeply memorable. What makes the experience stand out is how accessible it feels without being overdeveloped. There’s enough infrastructure to make the visit comfortable—parking, restrooms, and a small café—but the focus remains on the landscape itself. You’re encouraged to linger, to watch, and to absorb the scale of what’s unfolding in front of you. It’s not a place for rushing through. For those interested in photography, geology, or simply being present in a place that feels timeless, Jökulsárlón delivers. It’s one of the few spots where you can witness glacial movement, wildlife, and elemental contrast all in one frame. Highly recommended as a core part of any Iceland itinerary, especially if you value quiet grandeur over spectacle.

One of my favorite places in Iceland. There is a nice parking area super spacious. You have to pay to use the parking. It has a bathroom. You can see the glaciers and see random ice floating to the sea. You can see birds and seals. The bridge view is beautiful. I recommend this place.

This place would deserve 10 stars out of 5. Scenario directly from a Sci-fi novel. I had the privilege and the luck of being there during a sunset with clear sky, the sun setting on the Vatnajokull on the west. I've been in a lot of places for chasing perfect sunsets, this is likely the best one I've ever seen. Spotting the seals was the cherry on the cake 🦭 Please keep this place clean and preserved!

A must-see if you’re visiting Iceland! The viewpoint over Jökulsárlón is absolutely magical and one of a kind. It’s located just across from Diamond Beach, and the views are breathtaking. There’s plenty of parking available, and if you’re lucky, you might even spot seals swimming in the lagoon. Truly a beautiful and unforgettable place!

Very beautiful glacier lagoon. Best to go in the evening when the boat tours have stopped so you get an uninterrupted quiet view. Free toilets. If you pay for one you can access both this and the black sand beach car parks on the other side
