What a wonderful hotel. The service is amazing, from the front desk, to housekeeping and the restaurant. Everyone is excellent. The rooms are wonderful. With awesome amenities. You can't beat the location for watching northern lights!

We spent Christmas at Ranga. The website looks gorgeous and it has a great reputation. We were unfortunately an little underwhelmed. The photos show what looks like a lovely mountain cabin. Unfortunately this is only the reception. Rooms are spread out in long hallways either side of it and it strongly reminded me of a US motel layout, especially as it is immediately off a busy road as well. There are so many rooms and it doesn't have the intimate boutique feel implied by the website. And it is noisy, so so noisy. The bathroom extractor fan rattled incredibly loudly 24/7, the only relief was to keep the bathroom door closed. You can hear your neighbours' conversation quite clearly although less of a problem if you plan on being out and about. There are 3 hot pools, but they are communal and as mentioned there are probably over a hundred guests. The photos showed quite lovely decoration on the room, but our room was quite plain with 3 chickens handpainted on the wall. Not quite the atmosphere we expected. The bathroom is dated and the toilet felt a bit risky as it groaned each time we sat on it. They do have a gorgeous jacuzzi tub that was a joy to use and the bed is incredibly comfortable. We slept really well. The restaurant feels a bit more a food hall. It is incredibly noisy and echoes (probably because of the tiles), but has lovely views. The food was good, but based on reviews we expected something quite mind blowing which it wasn't. The menu does not change and feels a bit repetitive towards the end. Waiters were friendly. The breakfast spread is fair and quite good. What we expected to be the highlight of our holiday (we stayed in 4 different hotels) actually did not stand up well to the other places we stayed both in accommodation and food. Especially considering the price, a night here is shockingly dear for what you get. There is an observatory, although this is more a cabin with telescopes. Unfortunately the weather did not allow use of this, which was fair.

This hotel is unforgettable. Gorgeous remote location, with incredible views from everywhere. I stayed in February and saw the Northern Lights both nights. But it’s the good that makes this hotel so spectacular - the breakfast spread was unbelievable and the dinners were probably the two best meals I’ve ever had in my life.

Stayed here for a 2 night stop over. This hotel sells itself on its remote location, which serves it well. It’s easy to get to rural activities, and the northern lights are easier to see with no light pollution. We got lucky and saw an amazing aurora display. We enjoyed our stay, however, I’d recommend not eating at the restaurant. It was $200 for a dinner for two, with no alcohol, and two courses. The ‘ravioli’ special starter I received contained A SINGLE PIECE of ravioli, for $25. It was a rip off. I think the hotel getting a ‘Michelin Key’ lets them hike the prices. For the nights we stayed, it would’ve been $750/night. We used points on a deal. It is maybe worth $300 to stay here. Keep this in mind.

Great hotel in southern Iceland, “close” to sightseeing highlights. Dinner at the restaurant was very nice. Complimentary drink at check in. The hotel offers an “aurora” wake-up call and rings your room if there is any northern light activity. We were lucky to get the call during our stay. Staff was friendly and the hot tubs are a nice touch.
