We had the absolute pleasure of spending an entire day on a walking tour of Hiroshima and Miyajima with Alex, and it was an unforgettable experience. Alex is an outstanding guide—knowledgeable, engaging, and deeply passionate about the history and culture of the region. His insights added layers of meaning to every stop we made. In Hiroshima, Alex brought the Peace Memorial Park to life, providing detailed stories about the Atomic Bomb Dome and its enduring symbolism of resilience. At the Children’s Peace Monument, his explanation of Sadako Sasaki’s story and the paper cranes was both moving and inspiring. He encouraged us to reflect on the powerful message of hope and reconciliation these monuments represent. After a thought-provoking morning in Hiroshima, we traveled to Miyajima, where Alex guided us through the stunning Itsukushima Shrine. I had a fabulous day on my tour with Alex and our friends from England. I had no idea what the entirety of this trip would entail but it was jammed packed and full of great information and history!
