We had the absolute pleasure of spending an entire day on a walking tour of Hiroshima and Miyajima with Alex, and it was an unforgettable experience. Alex is an outstanding guide—knowledgeable, engaging, and deeply passionate about the history and culture of the region. His insights added layers of meaning to every stop we made. In Hiroshima, Alex brought the Peace Memorial Park to life, providing detailed stories about the Atomic Bomb Dome and its enduring symbolism of resilience. At the Children’s Peace Monument, his explanation of Sadako Sasaki’s story and the paper cranes was both moving and inspiring. He encouraged us to reflect on the powerful message of hope and reconciliation these monuments represent. After a thought-provoking morning in Hiroshima, we traveled to Miyajima, where Alex guided us through the stunning Itsukushima Shrine. He pointed out intricate details about the shrine’s architecture and its unique interaction with the tides. His knowledge of the island’s history, from the famous floating torii gate to the beautiful pagodas, helped us fully appreciate the spiritual and cultural significance of this sacred place. To top it off, Alex took us to a charming coffee shop hidden away from the crowds, where we enjoyed an excellent view of the island’s natural beauty in a serene setting. Alex’s ability to weave historical facts with local anecdotes throughout the day made the tour truly memorable. We left with a much deeper understanding of Hiroshima’s past and Miyajima’s enduring beauty, all thanks to his thoughtful and engaging guidance. If you have the chance, do not miss the opportunity to book a full-day walking tour with Alex—it’s an experience you won’t regret!

I had a fabulous day on my tour with Alex and our friends from England. I had no idea what the entirety of this trip would entail but it was jammed packed and full of great information and history! He also let us sway from the program a little which definitely gave us the opportunity to do more sightseeing and take on more of the local traditions. I will never forget this day.

There are not enough stars for Alex! While in Japan we have taken tours in Tokyo, Kyoto, and Osaka. Alex was by far the best guide we have had. Alex expertly guided us around the city while telling us the stories of Hiroshima. He even suggested a great lunch spot.

I went on a private tour of Hiroshima city, my guide was Alex and his wife, both of whom are wonderful, pleasant, and very knowledgeable about everything that happened in the city during World War II. It was an exceptionally well-spent and exciting day, I highly recommend them without any doubt. The tour was in English.
