I joined a one-day trip to Takachiho Gorge through KKday, and it was absolutely worth it. The gorge is incredibly beautiful and impressive, even more stunning in person. We also had the chance to row a canoe at the bottom of the gorge, which was a very relaxing experience. The weather was great and the crowds were manageable. If I visit again, I would love to spend a full day here just to slow down and enjoy the scenery. A must-visit spot!

About 15-20 min walk to the gorge after drop off by bus. A lot of tourists taking photos so walking is stop and go along the way. The trail is not hard but could be difficult for elderly and those with physical disability. Steep and many people walking down making pathway narrow, so best to take the shuttle van back up. Nice views. Color of the water changes depending on the weather/sunlight. The river is not too long and height of waterfalls is not too high. Best picture spot is on the bridge. 30 min boating ride; 2-3 riders, row on your own. Make sure you know how or else will have trouble when out in the water. There are souvenir shops, restaurants, snack shops, and restrooms at the scenic spots. Mango is the specialty there.

Chan Brothers Tour – 23 November 2025 After a delightful lunch at Aoshima Garden Dining, we continued our journey to explore the serene beauty of this region. The atmosphere was calm and refreshing, with gentle breezes carrying the scent of nature. Our next stop was a picturesque gorge, where the scenery unfolded like a painting—lush greenery, rugged cliffs, and the soothing sound of cascading water. We spent time near the little waterfalls, enjoying the tranquil rhythm of nature and even tried a bit of baiting along the clear streams. It was a perfect blend of relaxation and adventure, a reminder of how simple moments in nature can create lasting memories.

I recently visited Takachiho Gorge and was amazed by the breathtaking natural scenery. The lush greenery, towering cliffs, and the stunning river views created a truly picturesque setting. I was surprised to learn that the formation of the gorge is related to Aso Volcano, which added an interesting geological aspect to the experience. The combination of nature's beauty and its volcanic origins made my visit even more fascinating. It's a perfect spot for nature lovers and photography enthusiasts alike. I highly recommend taking the time to explore this beautiful location!

Do you like rivers? Do you like valleys? Do you like getting away from the big city? Do you like feeling secluded? This place is beautiful. It's not just the boat ride, there is so much to see. There are shrines, waterfalls, restaurants, etc. all in the area. The walk to boat's is a bit far so anticipate a good 20 minute walk. You can't actually row too far in the boats so don't worry, it's very safe and suitable for little children. Also, remember, TAKE A DEEP BREATH. smell the air. It's what real air smells like. :)
