Begin your journey with a visit to the historic Arkadi Monastery, where you will have one hour to explore its stunning architecture and rich history. The monastery played a pivotal role in the Cretan resistance against Ottoman rule during the 1866 revolt, and its small museum houses icons, monastic relics, and historical weapons. Next, travel to the Museum of Ancient Eleftherna, the first archaeological site museum in Crete, where you can explore artifacts and exhibits spanning from 3000 BC to 1300 AD, offering insight into daily life and art from Homer’s era.
Continue your day with a guided tour of the pottery workshop in Margarites village, where Miss Helen will demonstrate traditional pottery techniques, and guests can create their own ceramic pieces. Afterwards, enjoy free time for lunch or a stroll in Margarites. Visit a local olive oil manufactory to learn about the traditional and modern processes of olive oil production, with a tasting session included. The final stop is Melidoni Cave, a remarkable site filled with stalactites and stalagmites and rich historical significance, including its use during the Minoan civilization and the tragic events of 1824. The excursion concludes around 16:30–17:00 with a return to Rethymno.
