Marvel at the architectural beauty of our historic and modern buildings, and experience the local vibe by visiting the bustling Fish Market, African Market, and Municipal Market (note: closed on Sundays). From a scenic lookout point, enjoy breathtaking views of Mindelo, Monte Cara, and the golden stretch of Laginha Beach.
Your journey continues with a scenic drive to the top of Monte Verde, the island’s highest peak and a protected natural park. From here, take in panoramic views that showcase the diverse landscape of Sao Vicente. We then head towards the charming seaside fishing villages scattered along the island’s coast. Feel the refreshing ocean breeze as you swim in the crystal-clear waters of Baía das Gatas, a peaceful natural lagoon known for its calm, safe swimming conditions and long, contrasting beaches.
Finally, we make our way to Calhau, a small farming and fishing village nestled in a fertile valley. Calhau is home to Vulcao Viana, one of Sao Vicente’s last extinct volcanoes. Here, traditional farming practices are still alive see fields tilled by hand, alongside animals, old water wells, and rustic windmills dotting the landscape. This serene environment offers a glimpse into the simple, traditional way of life that has endured through generations on the island
Wear your bathing suit and bring a towel for a swim at Baia das Gatas Beach, if desired (there is no place to change your clothing). Wear comfortable clothing, shoes, sun protection and bring a bottle of water. We will make a stop for lunch (between 12:30-13:30), the restaurant accepts euros and escudos (local currency), no credit cards, the cost of lunch can be from 10 to 20 euros. Please inform of any dietary restrictions, allergies or special requirements.
