What an incredible place to visit when in Egypt. Learning about the Egyptian history over the times was fantastic for our family. Our guide was great, he spoke numerous languages and his knowledge was impeccable. A great day out for all to enjoy

This was my favorite museum that we visited in Egypt! We went two days in a row. There are so so many things to see you really need to take your time to truly experience them all. The upstairs blew me away with the endless rows of sarcophagi! It’s a must see museum and the best part is with the GEM now open there are very few crowds.

Probably the most important museum of a great civilization. I have been to the museum in Athens (the "main museum" of the Greek civilization), but to be honest, the Egyptian Museum impressed me more. Of course, it’s enormous. So you either need a guide or you must know exactly what you want to see. After all, you can't embrace the unembraceable by definition -) Be prepared for incredible crowds of tourists, comparable to Rome in summer. There will be very many people. Still, everyone moves along fairly quickly, so you can see everything you need or want to. The exhibits… what can you say about a collection that has so many mummies they have dedicated an entire vast hall to them? And in that hall, they lie in stacks - yes, in niches from floor to ceiling. It is a stunning collection. And this is so even though many very important relics were taken to England when Egypt was a colony. Ticket payment is card‑only, so you need a card or a guide (willing to pay for the tickets). If you're in Cairo, you should of course visit the Pyramids of Giza first and foremost. And secondly, you absolutely must go to the Egyptian Museum. As I said, it’s one of the world's most astonishing museums - a memory of a great civilization that, alas, no longer exists.

The museum building itself is valuable, and it’s definitely a place worth visiting at least once — truly impressive. However, while some exhibits have detailed explanations, others are displayed like in a storage room with no information at all, which feels like a missed opportunity. I hope the items will be well cared for at their new location.

✅ A large museum in the very center of Cairo, for which you should set aside enough time, at least 3-4 hours, which is due to the mini-breaks during the tour, but above all because of the numerous valuable and impressive artifacts, not only those related to Tutankhamun, but many others that are scattered in small rooms. ⛔️ Unfortunately, this museum has numerous flaws: - there isn't much places to rest inside or a places to refresh when you enter the main building - the map is confusing and very poorly marked, and I only found it on the wall near the entrance (the idea of hiring a guide is good here for those who don't prefer a tour at their own pace and don't want to read on their own or already know something about the artifacts they just need to explore) - most artifacts are not marked clearly, sufficiently or at all - the protective glasses are dirty and the entire museum has't been cleaned of dust on purpose for centuries (which may have been intentional, so that the experience would be authentic for the tomb finders 😁). 💯👍It's definitely worth a visit, but it would be nice if the museum could be tidied up a bit.
