Customer Reviews

Best museum experience for me personally. The ease of entry to different walking loops scattered throughout the ship was greatly appreciated. I did not expect to spend 6 hours even after reading previous reviews. But I honestly did not want to leave! Every passage, compartment, audio tour commentary, sign and artifact were fascinating. The history from the video on the battle for which the ship was named to its predecessors and successors helped tie it all together. And the weather and planes on deck were cool. We were there during the holidays and the lights and trees were a nice festive touch. And the recent secret loop with information about intelligence operations was well done. But the best part? The volunteers who my wife and I had the pleasure of talking to throughout the ship! Don't miss a chance to stop and talk to all of them about their time, their hidden gems and notes, and of course to thank them for their service. Every one we met was amazing. Thank you!

The most amazing place called museum I’ve ever seen! It feels more than real, tells a beautiful story of power and strength of a people. Planes that fought and won the world war displayed for individual experiences. It’s a big huge tour, wear comfortable shoes. Food and souvenirs are available. My greatest takeaways: 1. Workers there are veterans, doing what they’ve always known and love. They are so warm and lovely. Ready to answer questions and anything you may need. 2. You are handed a device once you enter, you scan it any point of an object and listen, the story and history behind it is played for your ears only. No tour guides needed, and you get to hear it within your own pace and as many times you need to ! 3. The kiss statue as a sign of the end of world war 2. Very beautiful to behold ! I love this place and I’ll go again.

The USS Midway Museum is one of those experiences that gives you an immediate sense of scale and history. From the flight deck packed with aircraft to the tight corridors below, everything is immersive and thoughtfully preserved. The self-guided audio tour is excellent and easy to follow, with stories from sailors who actually served onboard. It adds a personal layer that makes the experience feel real instead of museum-stiff. You can easily spend a few hours exploring and still feel like there’s more to see. The location is a huge bonus. The Midway sits right along the Embarcadero waterfront, surrounded by views of the harbor, downtown skyline, and nearby attractions. It’s walking distance from the Gaslamp Quarter, Little Italy, and plenty of restaurants, coffee spots, and waterfront paths. Definitely a great spot to check out for a perfect part of a full day downtown. Finding it is straightforward. It’s docked at Navy Pier, clearly visible from Harbor Drive, and easy to locate whether you’re walking, ridesharing, or driving. Parking is available nearby, but walking in from downtown or the waterfront is honestly the easiest and most scenic option. If you’re visiting San Diego, or even if you’re local; the USS Midway Museum is absolutely worth your time. Plus it’s free for service members.
