This full day Whale Route tour is a scenic coastal journey combining dramatic landscapes, charming seaside towns, and unforgettable wildlife encounters. Departing from Cape Town in the morning, the route winds along the coastline through Gordon’s Bay, Pringle Bay, and Betty’s Bay, offering sweeping ocean views and mountain backdrops. You will visit the beautiful Harold Porter Botanical Gardens and Fernkloof Nature Reserve, where indigenous fynbos and peaceful walking paths showcase the natural richness of the region. A drive past renowned wine estates and along iconic mountain passes adds to the visual experience.
The highlight of the day is time spent in Hermanus, one of the best land based whale watching destinations in the world. During whale season from August to November, Southern Right whales can often be seen close to shore as they breach, calve, and play in the shallow waters. Guests may also choose an optional whale watching boat trip for a closer encounter. The journey continues through the fertile Elgin region and over Sir Lowry’s Pass before returning to Cape Town in the early evening, completing a relaxed and nature focused day.

Dolphins and seals everywhere! With a very respectful approach, we could get close to them and even swim with them. They are very playful animals. Our captain was very competent, And give us a good lesson in marine biology and geology. Also, we could tell he deeply enjoyed his job! I would absolutely recommend this experience

Had an amazing day out with Graham from Hout Bay to Oudekraal and back. He has great local knowledge and a keen eye for wildlife and scenic spots. Great support for both scuba and free-diving, but just as great as a passenger.

Unforgettable family experience We had such a fantastic time being shown the beautiful local scenery and wildlife including seals, penguins and the mysterious kelp forests. Graeme is incredibly knowledgeable and had that magical balance of explaining things to our kiddos that kept them captivated and laughing the whole time . If you are looking for a personal family experience we could not think of a better person to show you the local sights. Thanks again 🙂

Had a fantastic time with Graeme in False Bay! We saw lots of seals, penguins, and even 2 whales during our trip. Graeme is very knowledgeable about the bay, and how to make your trip the best possible given sea conditions, while still being great company at sea. We had lots of fun and are looking forward to booking a future experience!

We had an absolutely fantastic experience on the water with Graeme from Oceans Africa! His expert local knowledge meant we had the best experience possible. I would highly recommend seeing the Cape Peninsula from the water….provides such a unique and beautiful perspective on this spectacular coastline. We saw heaps of wildlife- dolphins, penguins, seals and heaps of bird life. Kids really loved the experience too! Great day out. Thank you Graeme!
