Dam Square is the historic heart of Amsterdam, where culture, history, and daily life come together. This central square is home to the National Monument, built after World War II to honor its victims. Dominating the square is the Royal Palace Amsterdam, the official working palace of the Dutch king, open to visitors and admired for its grand architecture. Nearby stands the historic Grand Hotel Krasnapolsky, once a small coffee house that grew into a luxury hotel in the nineteenth century. Close to the route, the Amsterdam Coffee and Tea Museum offers a charming look at an eighteenth century shop, adding to the square rich atmosphere.

From Dam Square, the walk continues through layers of Amsterdam history and culture. You pass the impressive Oude Kerk, built around 1300 and later expanded into a Gothic basilica. The route then leads into De Wallen, known for its long history and lively streets. Along the way stands a tribute to Major Bosshardt, symbolizing compassion and service. The vibrant Zeedijk reflects the city maritime past and is home to the striking Fo Guang Shan He Hua Temple. The walk concludes at De Waag, a fifteenth century structure that once served as a city gate and later as a weighing house, completing a journey through Amsterdam rich heritage.
