The Gate of Heaven is gorgeous for pictures. The views are stunning and the atmosphere is serene. That said, the wait times are very long; we had to wait two hours before being brought to the top, and then spent an additional 1.5 hours at the top. Also, you must have your arms and legs covered, but no worries if you don’t—they provide sarongs to wrap you. While the scenery makes it worth it, plan for a lot of waiting if you visit.

Read the reviews—most of them are at least a little right. I didn’t actually plan to come here. A friend with a scooter wanted to go, and we had nothing better to do, so we ended up at The Gate of Heaven. I was genuinely surprised, mostly because I didn’t know much about the place beyond seeing it listed as a stop on day tours. I assumed it would be just another tourist trap—and to some extent, it is. But the experience really can be whatever you make of it. From the reviews, it seems most people wake up at the crack of dawn, drive for hours, then wait in line for hours more just to get the famous photo—and that’s if they get a good one, given the limited time and shots allowed. I don’t think many people actually experience the place when it’s peaceful. Instead, they’re surrounded by crowds of anxious, frustrated tourists slowly realizing that much of the experience feels like a money grab. That said, as I mentioned earlier, I came here by accident—and had an incredible experience. First, we were the last people allowed up for the day, so there was no pressure to wake up early or rush. By the time we arrived, almost no one was there. We were able to walk around freely, take our time with photos (without strangers in them), sit quietly, take in the views, and actually feel the energy of the place—reflecting on its history in peace and silence. We barely waited for the famous photo, got great shots, then wandered around a bit more before heading back down. Maybe it was the lack of pressure. Maybe the lack of planning. I’m not an influencer, so if my photo had turned out terrible, I would’ve posted it anyway and laughed at myself. Luckily, my photo turned out pretty bomb digity if you ask me. Go for the temple but stay for the photo, then hit up Virgin Beach if you go early enough and then at least that way you’re not driving so far for only one thing.

It was worth seeing the temple of you like looking at temples - but they do not lie when they say the line is long! It would have been three hours in the rain. We took a walk into the jungle above the complex - beautiful walk through the fog…I enjoyed my time there but wow was it a long queue. Didn’t get the photo.

This place is absolutely gorgeous!! It’s very well organized too. You’ll get a number when you first get there and then just have to wait patiently until your number is called. The wait can be long depending on the time of day. We got there around 7am and had to wait 2 hours for our number to be called to take the picture. We really enjoyed how well organized it was though and don’t have to fight people for pictures, just have to wait your turn. Definitely a must stop if you are in Bali!!

This is The Place for Instagram Pic. U have to leave early around 4:30am to reach the place at sunrise and buy ticket on spot. Long queue to get 10 pics part of ticket price. Just give your phone to the photographer when your no. Is called.

Our guide Gede Susila did a great job and drove us safely to all spots and suggested additionally nice spots we can stop on our way. It was a great experience and we can recommendit fully.. 👍😀

This day trip allows for visitors to see a new side of Bali! From the traditional villages to the water palaces, I found myself immersed in all the experiences. Worth it to note that entry fees are not included, so being cash and expect to pay 100k at each stop. Would recommend this tour to others!
Rebecca

Absolutely amazing from the get go! Everything from the gates, to the palace gardens to the bat cave temple blew me away. The only thing I’d suggest is take cash as none of these take cards for the entrance fees, thankfully my guide Agung was so helpful and used his own cash to allow me to gain entry and I was more than happy to repay him with a tip!
