This full day journey through central Crete is a slow and meaningful exploration of mountain life, tradition, and timeless landscapes. Traveling from the coast into the Lasithi mountains, you will discover olive groves, monasteries, plateaus, and villages where daily life still follows ancient rhythms. Along the way, you will learn how olive oil is produced, experience spiritual heritage at a historic monastery, and enjoy scenic drives through fertile valleys and highland villages shaped by myth and history.

The tour continues across the Lasithi Plateau, known for its windmills, open horizons, and connection to ancient legends. You will visit a rural eco park that recreates traditional crafts and village life, then enjoy free time for lunch in a local plateau village. The day ends peacefully in Krasi village beneath an ancient plane tree, offering time to relax, reflect, and absorb the quiet beauty of the Cretan countryside. Since the cave is closed in 2025-2026 due to reconstruction work after earthquakes, it is only fun to do the historical climb (anti-clockwise, so start with the old trail on the right). It takes about an hour walk with kids. You can't see the cave but the views on the plain are breathtaking. Afterwards go have a coffee Illy or a meal at the free parking at the family restaurant.

Excellent cave, but the walk up to it is long and steep, with lots of slippery steps inside and more climbing as well, with a basic guide rail. Don't try it if you're at all infirm or elderly. Wear good shoes

don't let the shitty reviews fool you. it's a wonderful drive into the plateau. The cave itself is a little walking up (maybe 15-20m) and I would recommend hiking shoes. great view from up there and nice breeze. the cave is pretty cool, but very steep, you can also bring a coin to toss for luck into the water. 2.5€ parking 6€ for the cave. plan some time on the way to work stop at the wonderful little towns and their cozy tavernas with insane views! if you come after 3pm, there is almost nobody anymore there.

It’s a cool cave. Worth visiting and studying the myths around this. The walk up from the car park is about 15 minutes and can be hot. The views over the plateau are also worth it. The case itself has a walkway and stairs throughout and you can get tickets at the door as well as refreshments

The cave itself is small and OK. But the 20 minute climb (or donkey ride) up the mountain and the drive through the Lasithi plateau make this a worthwhile excursion. Be prepared for the numerous steep stairs inside the cave and wear proper shoes. There’s a small parking for your car, but it can fill up fast when it is crowded.
