First things first, Dawn is awesome. She was very responsive when I emailed about the tour time! I thought I might be tardy do to a flight time change. She offered to have her husband wait for me, to catch me up with the group if necessary, which was very thoughtful. The tour itself is a fun way to see the city and learn about some spooky history. Dawn was engaging and got the whole group interacting, so it really felt like you were amongst friends. I am so happy I picked Key West Ghost Mystery Tours. As a bit of a supernatural skeptic, I had a wonderful time on this tour! Our tour guide was Dawn, who did a great job. She was engaging and made the whole group feel comfortable and welcome. I appreciated that (unlike some of the other ghost tours in town), this wasn’t an overly-theatrical “performance”. There was a great blend of Key West history and verifiable events mixed in with the supernatural stuff, which really helped me to stay present and enjoy my time on the tour, despite my skepticism going into it. The stories were presented in a very matter-of-fact way, more about sharing reported experiences and local lore than trying to scare you with dramatics. We initially considered the trolley tour, but this felt like the better choice, especially for anyone who doesn’t love big, touristy productions. And as a self-described skeptic, I found some of the stories genuinely unsettling and plausible enough to make me question my own beliefs, which is probably the highest compliment I could give any ghost tour! I initially felt like I was being dragged along by the rest of our family and was pleasantly surprised that I didn’t feel the need to be a party-pooper poking holes or nitpicking at the end (which I’m sure the rest of the family appreciated as well, lol). The tour was about 90 minutes, which seemed like just the right length. Long enough that we felt like we got our money’s worth, but not so long that we felt trapped on a never-ending tour. The pace and distance were leisurely, certainly doable for kids and older folks. The route is well-planned and you don’t feel like you’re in the middle of the chaotic party atmosphere of Duval Street, which was initially a concern. All in all, I thought the tour was a 10/10 (and I’m thankful my wife had cash on her, because Dawn did an amazing job and absolutely deserved a tip!).
I really enjoyed this experience at the fire house. Dan was our guide and he was exceptional and engaging. I really loved the ability to use the devices to try and communicate and the ability to roam free and investigate. I would do this tour again and again. I’ve done ghost tours before and I found this one immersive and definitely exceeded my expectations.
