Dushanbe, the capital of Tajikistan, is a city rich in history, culture, and literary heritage. Visitors can explore the National Museum, National Library, poet sculptures, and numerous cultural gardens that reflect the vibrant legacy of the Tajik and Persian nations. The city serves as a living archive where ancient traditions, art, and architecture combine with modern urban life, offering an immersive experience into the region’s historic and cultural wealth.
Tajik literature has deep roots in the broader Persian literary tradition dating back to celebrated poets such as Rūdakī. The national epic Shāh-nāmeh and the works of Rūmī are highly revered, while twentieth century poets and novelists contributed to a rich literary heritage that continues to thrive. For anyone interested in exploring the thousands-year-old civilization and literary legacy of the Tajik and Persian peoples, Dushanbe provides a unique window into the enduring history and cultural richness of the region.

The large and impressive National Museum building is one of the best parts of visiting, as you can see the giant crest from the inside (as well as the outside), which is beautiful. The exhibits were also great, I really liked the nature exhibits where they built fake climates for the various parts of the country.

A nice museum about Tajikistan. I would definitely welcome more English descriptions for better understanding. The museum was clean and pleasantly air-conditioned, which was welcome during the hot summer (40°C) when I was there. I would see room for improvement in the IT section, where most of the touch screens with information were either turned off or on the Windows home screen, which contrasts with the fairly thorough inspection of items at the entrance - they check that you are not bringing anything dangerous into the building, but you could easily access their IT systems

There is Art and history with a sizable sculpture exhibit. Much much better than any of the other museums, though by international standards 3/5 would be generous. The ticket is a reasonable 35.00 Somoni. Wouldn't recommend unless super bored. The only thing that truly awed me was the smallest Quran in the form of a pendant. This was amazing.

Entrance for a measly 35 somoni (though the cashier tried to then charge me 40 somoji when I asked about English translations). An excellent English-speaking young lady greets you upon entry. The ground floor has beautiful ceramics, I guess all recent bc there are no dates?! The first floor has many busts and some interesting textural pieces but the historical items in several rooms are of most interest. Unfortunately it seems this is where photos aren’t allowed?? Utterly ridiculous considering I have been to museums in 80+ countries and photos are OF COURSE allowed. There are room attendants that wander and monitor. Still, I took some photos and think a few of them might have known and didn’t care?! Very confusing. There’s also a circular room with gifts given to the president. Not very interesting save for the very centre of the room having the oldest historical items - beautiful gold jewellery and a crown- in the museum. Photos absolutely prohibited here and an attendant made sure of that. So taking off a whole two stars for that AND NO WESTERN TOILETS for ladies. Only squats 🤮🤮🤮🤮 gross. There are English translations for everything.

We visited the National Museum last year and were very impressed. My highlight was the vast statue of a sleeping Budha and the collection of precious minerals and stones of Tajikistan. The art exhibition was also very interesting. I definitely recommend to visit this museum.
