Lovely park, tress and plants are so many that you'd lose count. Overall the facilities are OK, but requires modernization.

Really beautiful garden. Great for nature lovers. There are many trees and plants of different types and origins. A peaceful place where you can walk, relax and enjoy the moment. There are some shops where you can buy Nubian products and also a Cafe.

🌴 A Stroll Through Paradise: Reviewing Aswan Botanical Garden History of the Oasis: The beautiful island housing the Aswan Botanical Garden wasn't always a gardener's paradise. It was originally known as Kitchener's Island, gifted to the British Consul-General, Lord Horatio Kitchener, in the late 19th century as thanks for his military service. Kitchener, a passionate botanist, took the monumental task of transforming the entire island into a lush, tropical sanctuary. He imported rare and exotic plants from various corners of the British Empire—from India to the Far East—to populate this Nile retreat. Palms: Kitchener had a deep passion for palm trees. Imports included several different species of majestic palms, like the Royal Palm and the Sabal Palm, which give the gardens their tall, striking canopy. Aromatic and Spice Plants: Your discovery of the Curry Leaf (Murraya koenigii), which is native to India and Sri Lanka, fits perfectly here. Other aromatic and resinous trees, like Sandalwood, were also imported, adding to the garden's distinctive fragrance. Fruit and Shade Trees: Many species of tropical fruit trees and large, shade-giving trees were brought in to test their viability in the Egyptian environment. This includes things like Papaya and the huge, sprawling Indian Banyan Tree (Ficus benghalensis). Ornamental and Exotic Flora: The garden became a showcase for beautiful, non-native flowers, shrubs, and unusual plant structures. It’s clear that the purpose was twofold: to create a beautiful, restful oasis, and to test the practical applications of agricultural and timber resources from Britain's colonies, with India being a major source. Later, the Egyptian government took control, maintaining and expanding it into the research and public garden we visit today. My Visit: A Race Against Sunset Stepping off the boat felt like leaving the hustle of Aswan behind and entering a different world. The journey itself is lovely; as you mentioned, access is only by boat, and the nominal entry fee—which felt like the $5 per person I paid—is well worth the trip. I arrived quite late, so my stroll through the garden was necessarily brisk. The sun had set, but the vertical paths, laid out almost like a chessboard, made navigation easy. What surprised me most was the sheer variety of flora. I'm an avid home cook, and as I passed one particular shrub, I was stopped dead in my tracks. It lacked a label, but the familiar, pungent scent was unmistakable. I crushed a leaf between my fingers just to be sure—it was the deep, spicy, resinous aroma of curry leaf! Finding such a specific, vibrant culinary plant thriving here, far from its traditional home, was a delight and a testament to Kitchener's global vision for the garden. The presence of royal palms, flowering shrubs, and shade trees from five continents made the whole experience a genuine treat for any plant lover. It truly is a must-visit spot on the Nile. The air is cooler, the shade is deep, and the tranquility is palpable. However, I have to echo your one complaint: the persistent presence of vendors trying to sell souvenirs or tours near the entrance and paths did detract a little from the peaceful atmosphere. It's a minor frustration, but one hopes the government could create a dedicated market area to allow the rest of the gardens to remain an unharassed, contemplative space. Despite the brisk pace and the vendor interruptions, I left with a clear memory of the gentle beauty and the unexpected sensory pleasure of finding that fragrant curry leaf. A true botanical gem on the Nile.

A quiet calming garden with many trees or various origins. You need to visit it by boat. An educational experience for those who love botanical science and simply love nature. The entire visit can take a few hours to maybe more depending on how much you want to read and observe. We visited during winter so there wasn’t much flowers in bloom. But I assume during spring it must be beautiful.

Take a picnic and blanket, spend the day! Highly recommend this garden. After reading the reviews on here I wasnt expecting much, but we ended up spending a few hours here walking, taking photos and being amazed by the crocodiles. If I took a blanket to lie in the sun and a picnic I could happily spend a whole day here. The cafe was too expensive so we didnt have anything. 20 Le entrance for non Egyptians, 10 LE for Locals. I made a youtube video to find out how many steps round the Island, it was one mile, and for those of you who want to do more you could walk the middle paths too and it would come to more than 2 miles.
