Temple of Nefertari (Small Temple of Abu Simbel) is one of the most beautiful and symbolic monuments in southern Egypt. This rock-cut temple, a masterpiece of construction by Ramses II, stands out for its elegant facade and harmonious design. Unlike most ancient temples, the statues of Queen Nefertari on the facade are carved at the same height as those of Ramses II, reflecting her exceptional status and the deep respect the king held for her. The temple is closely connected to Hathor, the goddess of love, motherhood, music, and fertility. It was dedicated jointly to Hathor and Nefertari, presenting the queen as the earthly embodiment of the goddess. Inside, the delicate carvings and reliefs depict ritual scenes, offerings to Hathor, and moments that emphasize balance, femininity, and divine harmony. Nefertari was Ramses II's Great Royal Wife, renowned for her intelligence, diplomacy, and beauty. Their relationship is often considered one of the most affectionate royal partnerships in ancient Egypt. Today, the temple remains a powerful expression of love, devotion, and art, and as part of a UNESCO World Heritage Site, it is an essential stop when visiting Abu Simbel.

The lesser fan fare of the 2 temples. Ordered to be built by Ramses II for his favorite wife. At the entrance you can see 3 Ramses and 2 Nefertari. The temple is much smaller but still very intricate carvings on the walls. A surreal experience once you reach there. We were here in December and the crowd were madness. The flies were present as well and everywhere. Just enjoy the experience and explore.

We really enjoyed our visit here despite the heat. Stories and well preserved stone carvings as well as how UNESCO helped in shifting it because of the dam construction. This temple is just beside the bigger one Abu Simbel temples complex. A must visit despite the distance from Aswan

The temple of Nefertari is amazing 🥳🫠😎. The wife of Ramses II - Nefertari - the most powerfull of the many wives of Ramses II. When you go inside there are a lot of people, but it is really worth it 🙃😅😉. Historical, interesting & stunning. Thank you and salam.🤗

Nefertari’s Temple is elegant, beautifully carved, and often feels more intimate than the main Abu Simbel temple. The façade with the six statues—four of Ramesses II and two of Queen Nefertari—looks stunning in the morning light, and the interior paintings are surprisingly well-preserved. It’s quieter and easier to photograph, with softer details that really show the artistry of the period. A perfect complement to the Great Temple and absolutely worth spending extra time exploring.
