Step back in time and enjoy a nostalgic journey aboard a traditional Maltese bus, known locally as xarabank or karozza tal-linja. These colourful buses, built between the fifties and seventies, are famous for their unique designs and intricate detailing. Each bus was carefully customised with polished chrome parts, decorative paintwork, passenger messages, murals, lucky charms, and trimmings that reflected local culture and traditions. Once a common sight on Malta’s streets, these buses are now reserved for special occasions, weddings, and tourist experiences. During this tour, you will first visit the Malta Aviation Museum in Ta Qali, where over a hundred years of aviation history are on display, including aircraft from the Second World War and post-war periods. The museum also showcases aircraft restoration projects, some still in airworthy condition.
Next, the tour continues to the Sanctuary Basilica of the Assumption of Our Lady in Mosta, famously known as the Mosta Dome. This stunning neoclassical church is known for having one of the largest unsupported domes in the world and is celebrated for its remarkable architecture, interior murals, gilded coffered ceiling, inlaid marble floors, and intricate artwork by local artists. Visitors will also see a large-scale model of the church and the bomb that failed to explode during the Second World War, an event regarded as miraculous. The final stop includes a visit to the World War Two Shelter, dug by hand during air raids to protect locals. The tour ends with a tasting of traditional Maltese savouries, all guided by an experienced guide who shares fascinating stories and historical insights throughout the journey.
