This 3-day online course offers comprehensive theoretical training for aspiring boat skippers, fully aligned with Croatian maritime regulations and licensing requirements. Students will gain essential skills in navigation, including plotting a vessel’s position and course on nautical charts using latitude, longitude, and compass bearings. The course also covers meteorology, teaching participants to interpret weather forecasts, understand wind patterns, and read pressure and cloud formations. In addition, students will learn maritime rules, including the COLREG “Collision Regulations,” and gain knowledge of radio communications, using VHF marine radios for distress, urgency, and routine calls.
The program further emphasizes safety and emergencies, teaching identification and use of life-saving equipment, distress signalling, and standard responses to situations such as man-overboard, fire, or flooding. Seamanship skills are developed through practical demonstrations of common knots, line handling, mooring, and anchoring techniques. Passage planning exercises integrate navigation and weather information to create simple voyage plans. By the end of the course, students will be ready to apply their knowledge in problem-solving exercises and sample questions, preparing them for the official Boat Skipper exam and subsequent practical training.
