Visiting Saint Catherine's Monastery today was an experience I'll carry with me for years to come. There's something almost surreal about standing at the foot of Mount Sinai, in a place that has been a sanctuary of faith for over 1,500 years. Walking through those ancient walls, I felt the weight of history in the best possible way. The monastery's architecture is breathtaking—the way the stone structures seem to grow organically from the mountain itself, the fortress-like walls that have protected this sacred space through centuries of change. But what moved me most was the sense of continuity. Monks still live and worship here, just as they have since the 6th century. The Burning Bush chapel took my breath away. Whether you're religious or not, standing near the site where Moses is believed to have encountered the divine is genuinely humbling. The icons throughout the monastery are extraordinary—some dating back over a thousand years, their colors still vibrant, their faces still watching over visitors like me with serene grace. I was particularly struck by the library, home to one of the world's most important collections of ancient manuscripts. Knowing that these texts survived here, preserved by generations of monks in this remote desert sanctuary, made me appreciate how fragile and precious our connection to the past really is.

Beautiful and historically important monastery, mountains. In addition to the monastery, I very much recommend also booking a tour to the top of Mt. Sinai, it’s very worth it and provides a beautiful view of the entire views and other mountains

The monastery has its own hotel, restaurant and cafeteria with reasonable prices. The food was OK, sleeping beds were clean. This isn't a 5 star hotel, more of a relaxing experience, try to visit it during summer times as in winter it would be soo cold.

The trip from Sharm el-Sheikh to the monastery was wonderful. Unfortunately, when we arrived, the museum with the icons, which is the most interesting part of the site, was closed, and there was no advance notice. Penso che non sia una cosa corretta, pullman di persone che arrivano e poi trovano il museo con le icone chiuso. We ended up wasting our time there. The monastery and church are beautiful, however.
